Vin Diesel is preparing for a life without Fast & Furious, and his teased replacement role is the complete opposite of Dominic Toretto. The Fast & Furious star has spent much of the last two decades headlining installments of the action franchise as Dom. He’s played the part as Dom turned from a low-level criminal into an international thief and master of espionage. Even though Diesel’s character routinely breaks the law, he’s still positioned as the hero of the franchise who is willing to do anything to protect his family, even if it means evading the law to do so.

With the Fast & Furious franchise ending in sight, it is no surprise that Vin Diesel is plotting various ways to remain in the spotlight without his $7 billion series to support him. This will include tackling a variety of projects, such as returning to the world of Riddick. But, one of his most exciting future endeavors is headlining a Kojak remake. The new potential movie franchise based on a 1970s TV show of the same name is primed to be Diesel’s Fast & Furious replacement. There is one key difference, though, between his new role and Dominic Toretto.

Vin Diesel Will Be A Cop In Kojak After Playing Criminal Dominic Toretto

Diesel Is On The Right Side Of The Law This Time

Vin Diesel’s upcoming role in Kojak will mark a major shift for his next character compared to Dom Toretto, as the actor will trade in his life of crime to be on the other side of the law. The original Kojak TV show followed a New York detective named Theo Kojak. Diesel will take over this character for the upcoming movie reboot. This will be the first time the Fast & Furious star has played a cop or any member of law enforcement since 2003’s A Man Apart, which came out just two years after making his debut as Dominic Toretto.

Going over two decades without playing a cop makes Diesel gearing up for the Kojak reboot more exciting. Audiences have now become used to seeing him play Dom Toretto and teetering between being a hero who is still not a law-abiding citizen and a full-fledged criminal. Theo Kojak was known for bending the law to catch criminals in the original TV show, so Diesel’s next role might still be far from a cop who follows every rule. But seeing how the actor navigates playing a cop should be a breath of fresh air after so many Fast & Furious appearances.

It is thanks to Kojak that Vin Diesel’s new role could become his chance to play a character similar to Brian O’Connor in Fast & Furious. Paul Walker’s character began the series as an undercover cop and spent the first few movies navigating being a member of law enforcement and bending the law. Now, it will be Diesel who steps into the cop role with Kojak. This means that instead of playing Dominic Toretto and being a character who repeatedly turns cops into criminals, Vin Diesel will use Kojak to be someone who puts criminals away for good.
