10 Best Opening Themes From Spring 2024

10 Best Opening Themes From Spring 2024

One of the things that has the easiest way of drawing people into an anime is its opening theme. Being the first impression fans get before an episode starts, an opening theme often works to get a potential audience excited about the series, and depending on the music and visuals, a good opening can be all a person needs to start watching something they otherwise had no interest in.

An opening theme can often make or break an anime for people, and the new slew of anime in the Spring 2024 Season are no exception. The Spring 2024 Anime Season has produced an excellent catalogue of new shows, and sure enough, there are a lot of new opening themes in the spring 2024 season with equally great music and visuals, all of which do a great job of capturing the mood of their respective anime.

10 Best Opening Themes From Spring 2024

Naturally, some anime have had much better openings than others, and the ones that stand out as the best are plenty worth calling attention to.

Whisper Me A Love Song Opens With Pure Rock & Romance

Anime series by Cloud Hearts & Yokohama Animation Laboratory; based on the manga by Eku Takeshima

In Cloud Hearts and Yokohama Animation Laboratory’s adaptation of Whisper Me a Love Song, high school freshman, Himari Kino, sees a student band perform on her first day of school and falls in love with the singing of the lead vocalist, Yori Asanagi, and tells her as such when they meet face-to-face. Yori, however, misinterprets it as a confession of love and falls in love with Himari because of it, and even after the misinterpretation is cleared up, Yori still tries to get Himari to fall in love with her.

The two focal points of Whisper Me a Love Song are music and romance, and both are on full display in its opening theme. Thanks to its stellar artwork, animation, and choice of song, Whisper Me a Love Song’s opening theme, “Follow your arrows” by SSGIRLS perfectly captures the romantic drama and stellar rock songs of the anime; the musical element is especially emphasized by SSGIRLS being the in-universe band Yori plays in. Whisper Me a Love Song’s opening isn’t one of the flashiest of the season, but it’s still one of the best at playing in its anime, regardless.

Spice And Wolf’s Reboot Has The Perfect Theme For Old & New Fans, Alike

Anime series by Passione; based on the light novel by Isuna Hasekura

Spice and Wolf

The Spring 2024 season’s lineup has premiered Passione’s reboot of Spice and Wolf, Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. The series has many of the staff from the original anime returning, including the director and the voice actors for Holo and Lawrence, and based on the flash forward in the first episode, the series is likely meant to be a complete adaptation of the original light novels, as the original anime ended before it could finish adapting the entire story.

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf is a great return to the classic anime, and its opening theme perfectly highlights that. The opening theme, “Tabi no Yukue”, by Hana Hope has artistic visuals in the beginning and serene vocals that excellently play into the low fantasy aspects of Spice and Wolf. Even the parts that are essentially just a highlight reel work by reminding old fans of everything they loved about the series, so overall, the theme does a great job of playing into the element of a reboot.

Train To The End Of The World’s Opening Offers Delightful Contrast To Its Story

Anime series by EMT Squared; directed by Tsutomu Mizushima

EMT Squared’s Train to the End of the World is set two years after the disastrous launch of the 7G cellular network completely warped reality and turned every part of Japan into an utterly bizarre landscape. The small town of Agano, for example, has everyone turn into animals when they turn 21, and with there only being a few years left before that happens to them, Shizuru and her friends decide to take a train to Ikebukuro, now a seemingly impossible distance away from them, to try and locate their lost friend, Yoka, who disappeared during the 7G Incident.

Train to the End of the World is a delightfully bizarre series, but its opening theme works by being anything but. “GA-TAN GO-TON” by Rei Nakashima largely ignores the surrealist nature of the anime to highlight the sweet nature of the girls’ friendship, and while that doesn’t accurately cover the overarching story of the show, the contrast does work to highlight the emotional core of Train to the End of the World, so it still works. Add in some great visuals and how infectious a melody it is, and it’s an opening that succeeds on all fronts.

After a seven-year hiatus, KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! is finally back with its third season, although the anime studio Drive has now replaced Studio Deen as the animators of the series. Season 3 picks up after the events of the 2019 film, Legend of Crimson, and even with how much time has passed, no time is wasted in having Kazuma and his party get involved in ridiculous and subversive fantasy hijinks wherever they go.

KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!’s return is great to see, and its opening perfectly plays into that. In addition to having great music and lyrics, “Growing Up” does a great job of highlighting the adventures the cast of KonoSuba have all been through with incredible art and animation, so old and new fans alike can quickly get caught up to speed with what everyone is like, despite how long season 3 took to come out. There was no better way to welcome such a legendary show back after so long, and hopefully, the show, itself, won’t disappoint.

Following a seven-month hiatus, season 2 of Studio Bind’s Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is finally back in full swing. With Rudeus finally over the issues caused by Eris’ sudden departure, he is able to marry Sylphie in earnest and take another step on his path to living a better life than his old one. However, Rudeus’ peace won’t last as he has to join his father on a quest to save his mother, and said quest is set to bring Rudeus to old and new friends.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation’s latest cour promises to be more action-packed than the previous one, and that’s perfectly illustrated in its opening theme. As the name would imply, “On the Frontline” by Hitorie uses energetic music and lyrics coupled with brilliant art and animation to show off how viewers have a lot of action in store for them, in addition to the same character writing that’s helped make the show such a success. That’s a welcome change of pace after the first half of season 2, and it will surely be great to see it all play out.

Silver Link’s Mission: Yozakura Family stars Taiyo Asano, a closed-off young boy who discovers that his childhood friend and crush, Mutsumi Yozakura, comes from a family of powerful and eccentric spies. When Mutsumi’s older brother tries to kill Taiyo to keep the two apart, Taiyo is forced to marry Mutsumi, so he can join the Yozakura family and be protected, and from there, he begins learning how to be a spy to survive the crazy world he just joined.

Mission: Yozakura Family has long since made a name for itself with its comedic stylings, and its opening theme does an excellent job of playing into that. Between its fluid animation and poppy music and lyrics, Ikimonogakari’s “Unmei-chan” does a great job of capturing the lighthearted nature of Mission: Yozakura Family’s story, all while still highlighting some of the more serious elements that occasionally pop up. It’s an opening that always works to set the mood of the series, and there’s always something about it that’s fun to watch.

Wind Breaker’s Opening Has A Masterful Visual Aesthetic

Anime series by CloverWorks; based on the manga by Satoru Nii

CloverWorks’ Wind Breaker stars Haruka Sakura, a kindhearted delinquent who’s spent his whole life being ostracized for his heterochromia and seeks to prove himself by becoming the top fighter at the legendary delinquent-filled school Furin High. As it turns out, though, the delinquents of Furin High are just as kindhearted as Haruka and protect their town from anyone trying to cause trouble, and by joining with them, Haruka finally finds a place where he can belong.

Wind Breaker is a series that thrives on pure, unadulterated shonen action, and that’s perfectly illustrated in its stellar opening. In addition to energetic music and lyrics that play into the action aesthetic, natori’s “Absolute Zero” highlights Wind Breaker’s action with gorgeous and overall creative animation from start to finish, easily making it one of the most inventive openings of the season. Above all else, Wind Breaker’s opening theme perfectly showcases what to expect from the anime that follows, and it’s hard to find any fault with it because of that.

Laid-Back Camp Season 3’s Opening Perfectly Captures Its Charming Nature

Anime series by Eight Bit; Based on the manga by Afro

Spring 2024 sees the return of the hit slice-of-life anime Laid-Back Camp, although with Eight Bit now directing instead of C-Station. The series continues the Outdoor Activities Club’s camping adventures around Japan, and Ayano Toki, who previously appeared in season 2, is also joining the club as a semiregular member of the show.

Laid-Back Camp is famous for its gorgeous art and animation accompanying its slice-of-life narrative, and that’s on full display in season 3’s opening. “Laid-Back Journey” by Kiminone showcases the lackadaisical nature of the story with a pleasing violin melody and fluid art and animation, all of which is a perfect showing of what have always been the biggest hallmarks of the series. Overall, it’s an appropriately gorgeous opening for what remains one of the most gorgeous anime a person can watch.

2

Jellyfish Can’t Swim In The Night’s Opening Theme Has Flawless Direction

Anime series by Doga Kobo; Directed by Ryohei Takashita

Doga Kobo’s Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night is an original anime starring Mahiru Kozuki, a girl with great artistic talent who gave up after her friends made fun of her artwork. A chance meeting with Kano Yamanouchi, a former idol trying to strike it on her own, inspires Mahiru to get back into art, and after Mahiru and Kano meet a talented pianist and a popular VTuber, they all come together to form the anonymous artist group JELEE and show the world what they got.

Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night is another Doga Kobo anime with gorgeous visuals and direction, and that’s especially apparent with its opening theme. The cinematography of “Irodori” by KanoeRana uses inventive and all-around gorgeous animation to show off the emotional depths of Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night, and as a bonus, the music is both great to listen to and a perfect song for highlighting the story. Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night is easily one of the most technically competent anime of the season, and its opening theme goes right along with that.

Go! Go! Loser Ranger! Is A Perfect Introduction Into Its Dark Story

Anime series by Yostar Pictures; Based on the manga by Negi Haruba

Yostar Pictures’ Go! Go! Loser Ranger! is a Power Rangers-style story where the universe’s Ranger team, the Dragon Keeper, protects the world from the Nefarious Monster Army every Sunday on clockwork. In reality, however, the Dragon Keepers won the war over a decade ago and now force the surviving minions to stage fake battles to maintain their status as heroes. One of those minions, Fighter D, has finally had enough of it, and he’s taken it upon himself to take down the Dragon Keepers and prove the Monsters’ worth.

Go! Go! Loser Ranger! has one of the most inventive stories of anything in the spring 2024 season of anime, and its opening theme is appropriately creative. In addition to having a truly infectious beat, Tatsuya Kitani’s “Preview of Me” has a mixture of gorgeous 2D and 3D visuals that perfectly capture the ins and outs of its story, making for a perfect introduction to every episode. Go! Go! Loser Ranger! couldn’t have a better opening theme, and it easily stands as the best opening theme from Spring 2024.
