Where Was My Life With The Walter Boys Filmed? Netflix Drama’s Filming Locations Explained

Netflix’s new teen series My Life with the Walter Boys has a lot of drama, romance, and love triangles, but its dreamy country landscapes have viewers wondering where the series was filmed. My Life with the Walter Boys comes from series creator Melanie Halsall and is based on Ali Novak’s 2014 eponymous novel, which she originally published on Wattpad when she was 15 years old. The story follows Jackie Howard, whose parents and sister die in a tragic car crash. At the beginning of the show, Jackie moves from New York to the fictional town of Silver Falls, Colorado to live with her guardian, Katherine, her mom’s best friend.

My Life with the Walter Boys is a coming-of-age story, but it includes a lot of romance. Katherine Walter is the mother of seven boys, and two of her nephews also live with her. Throughout season 1’s ten episodes, Jackie finds herself in a love triangle with two of the Walter boys, Alex and Cole. My Life with the Walter Boys season 1 finale doesn’t reveal who Jackie ends up with, as she leaves the scenic Silver Falls for New York again in the final scenes, getting on a plane with Danny and Richard.

My Life With The Walter Boys Cast & Character Guide

The 2023 Netflix drama series My Life with the Walter Boys features an orphan being taken in by a family of many boys. Who is in the cast of the show?

Calgary, Canada

There’s no such place as Silver Falls

My Life with the Walter Boys doesn’t include many scenes in New York in season 1, and most of the action happens in Silver Falls. Although the fictional town is set in Colorado, the Netflix series was filmed in Calgary, Canada. The Walter family owns a big ranch with a lot of land, and season 1 includes many scenic landscapes of lakes, fields, and forests. However, the geography certainly makes the area look believable as a small town in Colorado.

Throughout season 1 of My Life with the Walter Boys there are many scenic scenes from the fictional Colorado setting of Silver Falls. In episode 2, Cole takes Jackie on a detour after the bleach incident, enjoying some nice moments by the water. The scene was shot at Horseshoe Canyon in Calgary’s Banff National Park.

Cochrane, Canada

The show was also filmed in another town in Alberta

While most of the scenes were filmed in Calgary, the crew also filmed in Cochrane, Canada, according to the local press, which is about half an hour away from Calgary. Some of the scenes set in Cochrane included Hayley and Tara’s walk in the park, where they discussed the developments in Tara’s love life. The scene was filmed in William Camden Park. The sequence where Cole joined Jackie, Alex, and Kiley for board games at the cafe in episode 6, “Baggage,” was shot at the Texas Gate Grill restaurant. The location used for Katherine’s Colorado Association of Veterinarians Awards was the Cochrane RancheHouse.

My Life with the Walter Boys has been renewed for a second season, which is great news because season 1 left a lot of questions unanswered.

Where Are All The Other Scenes Filmed?

All the scenes of season 1 were filmed in Canada

The New York scene was in Calgary: My Life with the Walter Boys begins in New York with Jackie hosting a fancy high school party in a lavish ballroom. Before finding out her parents and sister died on the way to the event, Jackie was priding herself on her organizational skills. Although the New York scene closely resembles the real-life location, the show was filmed at Fairmont Palliser in downtown Calgary.

The Walter Ranch was filmed at the CL Western Town and Backlot in Bragg Creek, Alberta’s Foothills, about half an hour outside Calgary. The filming set is a common choice for other productions, too, which also included The Last of Us, Let Him Go, and more. Given how big the Walter family is, the space is just perfect for all the boys. The ranch is real, and it was not built as a prop for the show.

The Lark Cafe was set in a vacant building. The coffee shop is a local hangout for the Walter kids, and it’s also where Hayley and Will worked. However, the place doesn’t exist in real life, and it was set in a vacant building on Railway Street in Crossfield (via Atlas of Wonders). Fence Post was also used for the interior of the restaurants that appear on the show, beside Texas Gate Grill.

The rodeo fair was filmed at Heritage Park. In episode 9, Alex was waiting for Jackie, who drove to the event with Cole in his repaired Bronco, who broke down on the way. Although the two didn’t make it, the rodeo fair called Aurelita County Amusements on the show was an important scene for many characters, and filming took place at Heritage Park in Calgary.

Silver Falls High School is Chestermere High School. Jackie, her friends, and the Walter boys attend Silver Falls High School together, but, since the town is fictional, so is the school. In reality, the school they used for the show is Chestermere High School in Rocky View County.
