Thor 5 would give Chris Hemsworth the chance to keep — and extend — his impressive Marvel Cinematic Universe record despite Thor: Love and Thunder having disappointed audiences. Hemsworth is one of the few remaining actors from the MCU’s original Avengers team, with Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk being the other two. Throughout Thor’s MCU timeline, the God of Thunder has gone through quite a few changes. Hemsworth’s performance as Thor has varied from both movies in his franchise and the character’s appearances in the Avengers films.

However, Thor: Love and Thunder ended up being one of the MCU’s most divisive movies, with a huge conflict of tones that led to comedic moments undercutting the film’s emotional and darker storylines.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Hemsworth admitted that he has regrets over his role in Thor: Love and Thunder. The actor is aware of the movie’s tonal issues, saying, “I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.” Because of that, Vanity Fair reveals that Hemsworth “thinks he owes the audience another Thor after what felt like a whiff with Thor: Love and Thunder.” If the actor returned for Thor 5, Hemsworth would keep his impressive MCU record.

Thor Would Become The First MCU Hero To Have 5 Solo Movies

Thor Is One Of The MCU’s Longest-Running Characters

Hemworth’s Thor 5 would allow the actor to continue the character’s streak as the MCU hero to have the most solo movies. After Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor stands as the MCU character with the most solo films at four. However, two other heroes could catch up to Hemsworth’s hero in 2025. Technically, Captain America: Brave New World could count as a tie to Hemsworth’s Thor, as it will be the MCU’s fourth Captain America movie. However, as it stars Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson instead of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, the situation is a bit murky.

However, there is another movie that will for sure tie Hemsworth’s record. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 is in active development, with plenty of exciting rumors about what the movie could entail, and there is a chance the wall-crawler could swing by next year. Spider-Man will tie Thor with four MCU solo movies. However, Hemsworth’s desire to make up for Thor: Love and Thunder can help him extend his MCU record, with Thor 5 maintaining the God of Thunder a step above Spider-Man — and technically Captain America — in the MCU.

Chris Hemsworth Deserves To Redeem Himself

Hemsworth’s Thor is the only member of the Avengers’ big three in the MCU — the others being Captain America and Iron Man — left in the franchise. As such, the actor deserves the chance to make up for Thor: Love and Thunder‘s disappointment. Thor still has some story left to tell in the MCU in Thor 5 that could then continue in the next two Avengers movies before the character bows out — perhaps sacrificing himself for Love or to save the multiverse — or Hemsworth is recast in the rumored MCU reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars.

While Thor: Love and Thunder had its fair share of problems, Thor: Ragnarok showed that the God of Thunder’s franchise has the power to reinvent itself. Hemsworth’s Thor 5 could take the character on a more serious note, though escaping the dull nature of Thor: The Dark World. Thor 5 adapting “Siege,” which might have been set up by Disney+’s Secret Invasion, would perfectly fit that approach. Hemsworth’s Thor fighting to protect New Asgard with the help of Hercules — after they settle their dispute — and other MCU heroes would make Thor 5 an epic send-off for the hero’s franchise.
