The latest news coming from the video game movie’s camp concerns the cast and a new star joins the live-action Minecraft movie. In December 2023, it was announced that Wednesday star Emma Myers would appear in the cast of the Minecraft movie. Like the rest of her already-announced co-stars, nothing is known about who she will be playing, and details about characters and plot have largely been kept under wraps.
Minecraft Movie Release Date
The Minecraft movie is set to release on April 4, 2025. This will come almost two years after the production of the movie begins. Production was slated to begin on August 7, 2023, in New Zealand, but the Minecraft movie has now set a tentative filming start date in spring 2024. This delay is due to the SAG/AFTRA strike which saw a majority of Hollywood productions halted as actors fought for fair wages.

The biggest name brought in for the Minecraft movie cast is Jason Momoa. With Mamoa starring in everything from Aquaman to Game of Thrones to Fast X and Dune, he remains one of the most in-demand stars in Hollywood right now. Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer were hired to rewrite the script in early 2023 (via Deadline), but there are still no details on what the Minecraft movie story might be. The game is a sandbox, which means people can go and build their own worlds and societies and then invite other players to come and explore, play, and battle in their creations. However, this does not offer much in the way of a definitive story.
Previous versions of the Minecraft movie script followed a teenage girl and her friends as they set out to save their Overworld from the malevolent Ender Dragon.
