The forthcoming AMC original series Preacher, from frequent collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (This is the End) and co-developer Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad), is primed to be one of the most provocative and pruriently entertaining new shows from the lauded television network. Based on the original comic book series created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, the Preacher TV show is set to center around the ethereally empowered former pastor Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) on a quest to find God in a (somewhat) literal sense.
Custer is aided in his quest on the Preacher TV show by his ex-girlfriend Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga) and his hard-drinking Irish vampire buddy Cassidy (Joe Gilgun). The AMC series from Rogen and Goldberg is currently looking to be a good time for genre film and comic book fans alike, and the latest promotional material released for the show offers an even better taste of what the offbeat Preacher series will have to offer.
In the footage featured above, a quick twenty second montage flies by that serves to intimate all of the mayhem and sacrilegious good times that are sure to occur over the course of the first season of the brand new AMC original series. Featuring the Preacher TV show’s core group of heroes, the latest promo should serve to stoke the fires of fan anticipation just a little bit higher leading up to the show’s first season premiere later this May. Even as AMC appears determined to keep much of the show’s explicit content largely under wraps, there certainly appears to be plenty of off-the-wall action and bizarre heroes and villains who will see fit to populate the world of Preacher for those viewers who decide to give the new series a shot. Fans of the original comic book run are no doubt eager to learn how whether AMC did a good job translating Preacher to the small screen, though it would appear as though Rogen, Goldberg, and Catlin have crafted a television event fit to entertain casual viewers, too.
Until the Preacher TV show hits the airwaves at the end of next month, fans of the franchise will just have to wait and hope that all of the promotional hype and footage released thus far lives up to its purported promise. In the mean time, those familiar with the original Ennis comic book series, in addition to readers taking a glance at its lurid panels for the first time, can read or re-read the source material in order to prepare for the series soon to come.
