Lord Zedd’s Final Form In Power Rangers Reveals How Powerful Zordon Really Was

Lord Zedd’s Final Form In Power Rangers Reveals How Powerful Zordon Really Was

Lord Zedd’s final form in Power Rangers is a reminder of how powerful Zordon really was. Although Lord Zedd was redeemed at the end of Power Rangers in Space, a different version of the character from before his redemption was brought back in Dino Fury. After making a couple of appearances in season 29, Zedd returned as the main villain in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. Full of nostalgia and Mighty Morphin characters, Cosmic Fury was a love letter to the original show. In addition to Zedd and Billy, the show also featured an unusual cameo from Zordon.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s ending saw a new version of the team, which now included Power Rangers’ first Orange Ranger, facing Lord Zedd. The iconic Power Rangers villain debuted a new form during the final battle, one that was created with the powers of all Morphin Masters combined. Zedd’s “Master Zedd” form was quickly dealt with, but it was a cool transformation regardless. Not only that, but Zedd’s final form helped put in perspective just how powerful Zordon, who sacrificed himself at the end of Power Rangers in Space to save the universe, was.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s Master Zedd Confirms How Strong Zordon Really Was

It took six Morphin Masters to match Zordon’s power

At the beginning of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, Lord Zedd’s forces capture the Morphin Masters using a special device designed to store the powers of these interdimensional beings. Morphin Masters can be considered guardians of the Power Rangers multiverse – all-powerful beings whose role is to protect the natural order of things. While Morphin Masters should not interfere, this rule has been broken several times in Power Rangers. In Dino Fury, for example, the Green Morphin Master gave the Power Rangers a special sword that could take down Lord Zedd.

Regardless of their role in the Power Rangers universe, Morphin Master are ridiculously strong and can even bring the dead back to life. The Cosmic Fury villains planned to steal the powers from the Morphin Masters and use them to create an evil version of the Z-Wave, a term used to describe the energy Zordon unleashed across the universe after his death. The Z-Wave was powerful enough to eradicate all evil in a certain portion of the galaxy, whereas Bajilia Naire’s anti-Z-Wave was supposed to eliminate all good in the galaxy.

Bajilia Naire’s plan failed, and Lord Zedd ended up being the ultimate threat. Instead of creating a new Z-Wave, Zedd used the energy from the Morphin Masters to achieve a new form – Master Zedd. In other words, Lord Zedd’s final form was as strong as all six Morphin Masters combined. It is interesting to notice, though, that it would have taken six Morphin Masters to unleash a similar wave to the one generated by Zordon during Power Rangers in Space. Therefore, it can be argued that Zordon was more powerful than Lord Zedd’s final form when the former was still alive.

How Zordon’s Sacrifice Saved The Universe In Power Rangers In Space

The Z-Wave destroyed (and redeemed) several villains

Lord Zedd’s Final Form In Power Rangers Reveals How Powerful Zordon Really Was

The Z-Wave is one of the most important events in the Power Rangers chronology and was referenced twice in 2023 with Power Rangers: Once & Always and Cosmic Fury. Zordon had been kidnapped off-screen at the beginning of Power Rangers in Space, and it took most of the show for the Rangers to find their mentor. However, by the time Andros found Zordon, it was already too late to stop Astronema’s Alliance of Evil from taking over the galaxy. All Power Rangers villains, including Rita and Zedd, were now part of an army that was invading multiple planets.

“Countdown to Destruction” saw Rangers all across the universe fighting the Alliance of Evil, but the heroes were outnumbered. To stop the villains from winning, Zordon asked Red Ranger Andros to destroy his energy tube. The destruction of Zordon’s tube was going to unleash an immense amount of good energy that was going to purify all evil it could touch. However, it was also going to cause Zordon’s death. Andros initially refused to do what his mentor was asking but eventually agreed to help Zordon make the ultimate sacrifice. The Z-Wave made villains like Rita into humans and turned irredeemable monsters into stone.

Cosmic Fury’s Zordon Return Made Power Rangers’ 30th Season Even Better

Not only did Cosmic Fury reference the Z-Wave and use it as an important plotline, but it also brought Zordon back, sort of. While the Power Rangers’ mentor did not appear in his traditional form, Cosmic Fury confirmed that Zordon was still alive. When Zayto was about to die, Zordon appeared to Aiyon, but in the form of the Zenith Ranger. Zayto’s actor, Russell Curry, got to play Zordon for a few minutes in a brief but meaningful scene between him and the Cosmic Fury Gold Ranger. Zordon’s essence still exists within the Morphin Grid, meaning he is not technically dead.

8 Best Power Rangers Characters Who Didn’t Appear In The Original Show

Mighty Morphin may be Power Rangers’ most iconic season, but some of the best characters in the franchise only debuted after the original show ended.

Zordon even used his iconic “May the power protect you” line, which Aiyon would later use in front of Billy. The original Blue Ranger recognized his mentor’s phrase and concluded that Zordon was still out there somewhere. It’s unlikely that the next Power Rangers show will be a sequel to Cosmic Fury, which is bittersweet considering the Zordon tease at the end of season 30. Still, having Zordon return in Power Rangers’ 30th season was a great way of bringing the show full circle, especially because Billy and Zedd were also involved.

Power Rangers Never Displayed Zordon’s Full Power (Until The Comics)

Zordon didn’t get to do much in live-action

Zordon was an original Power Rangers character, although he was loosely based on Zyuranger’s Mysterious Sage Barza. Most of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers used the same piece of reused footage from Zordon’s face inside his energy tube, meaning there was only so much the show could do with the character. Zordon became a less prominent character after MMPR, appearing less and less until his demise in Power Rangers in Space. Even though Zordon is one of the most recognizable Power Rangers characters, the franchise never displayed his full power in live-action.

Not even the 1995 Power Rangers movie, which showed Zordon outside of his tube, gave the character something to do outside of mentoring the Rangers. Fortunately, BOOM! Studios’ Power Rangers comics have helped reinvent Zordon, including but not limited to giving him a rich origin story. Zordon even got to suit up and join the action in recent comics, something that the TV show would never have done. Although the Power Rangers comics are not necessarily canon to the TV show, Cosmic Fury’s Z-Wave storyline made it clear how strong the leader of the Power Rangers once was.
