Helldivers 2 Armor Update Idea Gets The Community’s Stamp Of Approval

Helldivers 2 Armor Update Idea Gets The Community’s Stamp Of Approval

Helldivers 2 may already include dozens of unique armor sets for players to cycle through but one fan is envisioning a revamped system that would make building specific sets even more advantageous in the field. In the current version of Arrowhead Studios’ live-service game, Helldivers are able to choose between a range of different helmets, body armors, and capes and while the latter cosmetic doesn’t have much of a mechanic impact, the other two options can make or break a build. One fan is taking this idea even further by pitching even more robust build opportunities.

Shared to Reddit by user ThePengu, the Helldivers 2 fan shared their concept for more varied armor abilities that would result in more class diversity and players opting to fill certain roles.

The changes are subtle but smart, including tweaks to the CE-27 Ground Breaker set that grants the wear a larger grenade pouch and immunity from gas attacks, making them better suited for close encounters with Terminid nests. Another smart change is granting the CM-21 Trench Paramedic armor a perk that allows stims to last for two seconds longer, which could be essential on harder difficulties.

More Armor Perks Would Make Helldivers 2’s Meta Better

Players Would Be Able to Spec Into Different Specialities

ThePengu’s suggestion for improvements to Helldivers 2‘s armor has proven especially popular amongst the game’s community as users both agree that more diversity is necessary while also offering some suggestions of their own. One of the most popular aspects of the pitch is that Medium and Heavy Armor would have more passive perks to balance out against their lack of mobility and speed. They also note that while the idea of players simply adding mods to armor would work, it doesn’t necessarily line up with Arrowhead Studios’ monetization model.

ThePengu’s concept for more robust armor perks doesn’t take away from their already-established stats, such as Heavy Armor providing more protection against damage at the trade-off of less stamina, but they do prompt players to become more creative with their builds. With a wider spread of abilities, squads would need to prioritize certain roles and positions to ensure their chances of survival were as good as possible. Every Helldiver charging into a mission with the same set of armor would be punished for lacking the reflexivity needed to adapt to any situation.

New Helldivers 2 Updates May Fix The Game’s Two Biggest Issues

Helldivers 2 has its issues, but a Discord poll gives some insight to the developers’ next steps. Here’s what might be in store for the future.

A Bug Originally Made Helldivers 2’s Light Armor More Powerful

Since This Has Been Fixed, More Modular Customization Could Be Useful

Previously, a bug made the armor rating equivalent across all levels, creating a situation in which Helldivers 2‘s light armor could be as powerful as the heavy armor. This reduced the need for many players to equip the heavier armor and made light armor part of many Meta builds in the game, as it offered significantly increased mobility and could allow players to move faster without using as much stamina, while also protecting them from high levels of damage. As of March 6th, with the release of the 1.000.100 patch, this bug has been fixed in Helldivers 2. Now, with the armor better representing what it should have from the start, it would make sense build upon this by adding more customization like ThePengu suggests, tailoring them to suit players’ specific playstyles.

With the sheer number of players fighting for Super Earth at any given time, there’s already bound to be a wealth of diversity in how they approach certain situations to carry out their major orders. Therefore, giving the players the option to better reflect that through their load-outs would make Helldivers 2 feel even more immersive, as no trooper would be exactly the same, and could offer a more fleshed-out team as players would also have to pick and choose what perks would work best when combined with another person’s. CrazyIvan606 commented on ThePengu’s post suggesting that the idea of a completely modular system would work, as it could incorporate the special looks Arrowhead has been adding via Premium Warbonds for “drip-mocracy” with a set amount of perks players could pick and choose between based on their preferred loadout. A further interesting suggestion involved taking elements from enemy troops and building them into a Helldiver’s armor, such as the HMG belt-feeding backpack seen on the Automatons. If the game were to include a modular system, it could add specific items and perks like that based on the types of enemies killed “for research” to make it feel more rewarding.

Whether or not Helldivers 2 eventually adds in more armor perks remains to be seen but Arrowhead Studios has proven to be especially responsive and respectful of the community’s feedback. It’s entirely possible that a future update could introduce a similar system but fans will just have to see what the developers have in mind for future updates. The game is constantly getting new content in the form of monthly Warbonds that add new armor and weapons to the game, so some extra perks don’t seem out of line.
