Warning! Contains spoilers for Chapter 221 of Jujutsu Kaisen!After over a hundred chapters being sealed away, Jujutsu Kaisen‘s strongest sorcerer Satoru Gojo has finally made his glorious return. His return is yet another sign that mangaka Gege Akutami is planning on ending Jujutsu Kaisen relatively soon. But the fights his return sets up for the manga’s climax promise to be some of the most epic in the series so far.
Chapter 221, translated by John Werry, features Hana finally using her Jacob’s Ladder technique to release Gojo from the prison realm that Kenjaku trapped him in. However, instead of releasing Gojo among his allies, Kenjaku set up the box to release Gojo deep under the ocean in a subduction zone, hoping that would slow him down or kill him. It also let Kenjaku be able to attempt to kill him before he could meet up with his allies if the pressure and water failed. Of course, when Kenjaku does confront Gojo, the sorcerer is completely unharmed and immediately tries to kill the immortal villain. However, Sukuna intervenes and the two briefly clash before deciding to postpone their battle by a month to fulfill prior commitments and deal with personal issues.
Gojo Returns to Jujutsu Kaisen After Over a Hundred Chapters
Sukuna and Gojo’s battle is sure to be the most epic clash in the series given how powerful its two participants are. Sukuna has shown how powerful he can be in Jujutsu Kaisen with Megumi’s body using the Ten Shadows Technique over the past couple of chapters. Gojo on the other hand has one of the most powerful Cursed Techniques in the series in his Limitless ability, which grants him near total control of the space around him. This allows him to protect himself from being hit with Infinity and also lets him use the more aggressive Blue and Red attacks, which attract and repel respectively. These attacks can then be combined into the Hollow Purple technique, which completely erases any matter it touches. All of this isn’t even mentioning his Domain Expansion, which overloads his enemy’s sense with stimuli preventing them from fighting back.
All of this describes Gojo’s power level before being sealed away, but he could be even more powerful now. Time exists differently in the prison realm, meaning Gojo could have used it like one of Dragon Ball‘s hyperbolic time chambers, training himself and becoming even stronger. Of course, in the month before their fight, Sukuna could acquire more of his fingers to increase his strength, or use Yorozu’s mysterious gift to give himself a surprise edge in the clash. So by the time the fight occurs, Sukuna and Gojo will both indisputably be the most powerful fighters in the manga making their battle a clash of epic proportions.
Gojo’s Return Sets Up the End of Jujutsu Kaisen
It will also be interesting to see how Yuji and his allies react to Gojo’s return. It has the potential to be emotional as he learns of his friends who have died or hilarious given the light-hearted way he has interacted with them in the past. But no matter how their reunion goes, Gojo’s return marks a major turning point for the series as its characters all inevitably will have to prepare for Gojo and Sukuna’s climactic fight. But for now, Jujutsu Kaisen fans can enjoy the fact that Gojo, one of the most popular characters in the series, is finally back and seemingly better than ever.
