Warning: contains spoilers for X-Men #34The berserker Wolverine has a new target… and it’s none other than the disgraced X-Men founder Charles Xavier. In a bid to save his precious mutants from annihilation, Xavier has sided with Nimrod and Orchis as their Ultimate Sentinel, betraying his X-Men and his dream in such an egregious way, that Wolverine is now being forced to murder the man he once considered family.

Xavier is desperate, and in his desperation he has become a worse villain than any the X-Men have faced before, using his impressive telepathic abilities to slaughter countless humans to appease Nimrod and Omega Sentinel.

X-Men #34, from writer Gerry Duggan with artists Joshua Cassara and Romulo Fajardo Jr., sees the core X-Men team fighting against the despicable M.O.D.O.K, while Kate Pryde and Logan commiserate on the fate of mutantkind, with Wolverine deciding to assassinate his former mentor.

THE END IS NIGH! The Krakoan Age is nearly at an end… and what might be the final battle of the heroes of Krakoa! One last stop before the fall and rise come to their conclusion… and everything changes!

Xavier Has Become Wolverine’s Next Deadly Mission

Logan cannot excuse Xavier’s horrific betrayal of his dream

Professor X Provides Nuclear Codes

Xavier has been on a descent into unforgivable villainy for… honestly decades. Starting with small things like forcing Wolverine to join the X-Men after stopping Romulus’ brainwashing of Logan to much larger sins like hiding the deaths of his Deadly Genesis team, Xavier has gradually become less and less ethical. During the Krakoan Era Xavier proved just how corrupt a leader he was, and after the Fall of X began the former leader first attempted to destroy the Krakoan timeline before trying to murder Moira X as a child, although he was stopped by students each time.

Wolverine Is Facing the Hardest Choice in His Entire 50 Year Story

Now though, Xavier has gone too far. After getting Nimrod to promise to leave Krakoa as a safe haven for mutantkind, Xavier has sided with the villainous AI to destroy humanity. Charles has used his telepathy to decrease the intelligence of world leaders and has given the world’s nuclear codes to Omega Sentinel. In X-Men #34 Kate Pryde admits to Logan that she hoped the reports were false, and that all this tragedy wasn’t caused by Xavie. Upon learning it was all Charles, Kate drops her sword and swears off the X-Men, prompting Wolverine to declare his intent to murder Xavier.

Wolverine Has Always Been Loyal To Xavier And His Dream

Xavier has helped Logan find family, purpose, and respect

X-Men Original Sin Xavier Wolverine

Logan came to the X-Men with a fractured memory, an intense rage in his heart, and no real purpose in life. Although it was later revealed that Xavier had manipulated Wolverine into joining the X-Men, Logan’s time on the team has given his life meaning, helped him uncover the truth about his past, and redeemed his past sins by becoming one of the world’s greatest heroes. Besides Cyclops, Wolverine is probably Xavier’s most loyal student, and even though Logan knows he must kill his former teacher, murdering Xavier may be harder than Wolverine expects.

Wolverine

The human mutant Wolverine (a.k.a. Logan) was born James Howlett, blessed with a superhuman healing factor, senses, and physiology. Subjecting himself to experimentation to augment his skeleton and claws with adamantium, Logan is as deadly as he is reckless, impulsive, and short-tempered. Making him the X-Men’s wildest and deadliest member, and one of Marvel Comics’ biggest stars.

Wolverine and Xavier have a long history together, and while Logan has always kept his heart distant from Xavier’s dream, he has always admired and respected the Professor. However, Xavier has betrayed his X-Men in a way Wolverine can’t forgive, meaning Charles will be coming face to face with a pair of adamantium claws in the near future.
