The new confirmation that Xavier has been removed from Wednesday season 2 complicates a lingering mystery from the season 1 finale. With Wednesday season 2 finally entering production, the hit Netflix show has announced a slew of new cast members and characters joining The Addams Family icons for another spooky outing. While the series has confirmed that actors like Steve Buscemi, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Thandiwe Newton, and The Addams Family movies’ Christopher Lloyd as new additions, it’s also been reported that one main cast member from season 1 will not be among Wednesday’s returning actors.

Netflix has now confirmed that Percy Hynes White will not return as Xavier Thorpe in Wednesday season 2. The character played a major role in Wednesday season 1’s story as a psychic student at Nevermore and a romantic interest in Wednesday Addams’ love triangle, though his future was left ambiguous when the school was shut down after the return of Joseph Crackstone. While Xavier’s absence fits with the desire for season 2 to move away from the divisive love triangle subplot involving Wednesday, Xavier, and Tyler, it also puts more pressure on the show to quickly resolve the mystery created by his character in Wednesday season 1’s ending.

Wednesday Season 2 Still Needs To Answer The Phone Stalker Mystery (Despite Xavier’s Absence)

Xavier was involved in an unresolved mystery from Wednesday’s season 1 finale

Though Xavier won’t be returning, Wednesday season 2 still needs to resolve the mystery of who was stalking Wednesday Addams and sending eerie pictures and messages to her phone. Xavier factored into this mystery because he was the one who gifted Jenna Ortega’s character the phone just moments before she left Nevermore, suggesting her stalker is somehow connected to him. Xavier being featured in some of the photos sent to Wednesday seemed to indicate that he wasn’t the stalker, but his implied involvement or link to the mysterious person still needs to be addressed in Wednesday season 2.

With the confirmation that Wednesday season 2 is returning to Nevermore Academy, it seems the identity of Wednesday’s stalker will be revealed when the school year begins rather than when she’s still home at the Addams family mansion. There were theories that Wednesday’s stalker could be Vincent Thorpe, Xavier’s father, but that now seems highly unlikely with his son’s absence. Rather, it’s more probable that the phone stalker is one of Wednesday’s classmates at Nevermore or even a faculty member, making everyone a suspect again in the show’s sophomore outing.

Xavier’s absence indicates that season 2 is keeping its promise to remove the divisive love triangle subplot from Wednesday season 1. Furthermore, a heightened focus will likely be placed on Wednesday as Nevermore’s most prominent psychic character, with her lessons regarding her powers likely bringing her closer to fellow psychic Eugene. It also suggests that some parents may have pulled their children out of Nevermore Academy permanently following season 1’s murder mystery, which could be the case for Xavier and other students in Wednesday season 2. With the romance subplot being dropped, Xavier’s absence also suggests Wednesday will prioritize her friendships with Bianca, Enid, Eugene, and Ajax.
