New Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 information teases how its most divisive character fits with the BAU. In less than a month, Emily Prentiss and her profilers will be back on Paramount+ to solve the lingering mystery of Gold Star. Criminal Minds: Evolution‘s core cast is intact for its sophomore year, with the BAU all surviving the Sicarius serial killer ring case unscathed. Considering what lies ahead for them when it comes to work, however, Prentiss and the rest of the team have no choice but to get additional help.

One of the unexpected recruits for the BAU in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 is Ryan-James Hatanaka’s Tyler Green. Per TV Line‘s interview with showrunner Erica Messer, the profilers bring him in as a “consultant” as they work on their current case for the Paramount+’s revival’s sophomore year:

“That character can do things that the rest of the team can’t really do with their badge and gun.”

Green’s Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 Presence Can Bring Chaos To The BAU

Will Green Be Worth The Trouble?

Zach Gilford’s Elias Voit was the primary Unsub in Criminal Minds: Evolution. After an intense cat-and-mouse chase with the BAU that involved Dave Rossi almost getting killed, Sicarius was finally apprehended. He will remain in custody when the procedural returns. However, while Voit was the main villain of season 1, Green arguably made a much bigger impression because of his complicated ties to the case and eventual relationship with Penelope Garcia. It was through his manipulations that forced Garcia to return to the BAU, but their dynamic went on to become more complicated after that.

Against her better judgment, Garcia started a fling with Green, which got her in trouble with Prentiss and the rest of the BAU — something that was almost unheard of in all the years of Criminal Minds. Not only was it unethical, considering Green’s connection to the Sicarius case, but it was also such an uncharacteristic move, given how cautious she had been with her dating preferences. She did end things with Green before it got out of hand, but having him around in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 will make it difficult for them to get past their controversial affair.

Prentiss believes that Green is worth the trouble. Hatanaka is confirmed to be a series regular in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2, which means that he will appear in all upcoming episodes of the revival. However, it doesn’t mean that his presence won’t bring her any headache. To make things worse, Green’s involvement can be detrimental to the hopes that Garcia and Luke Alvez can finally be together as a couple.
