New photos from the set of You season 5 confirm the return of a fan-favorite character. The conclusion of You season 4 altered the course of the Netflix thriller series in a major way, leaving Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) seeming more dangerous than ever. While it’s unclear how much his current love interest Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) actually knows about Joe’s murderous past, she has the resources and the PR team to help clean up his image. But even more worrying, Joe doesn’t seem to have much guilt about committing crimes and doing what he believes is needed to protect himself.

New set photos from You season 5, which is currently filming, confirm the return of Tati Gabrielle as Marienne Bellamy. In the photos, shared by What’s On Netflix, the character is seen walking around and conversing. However, in another photo, Gabrielle looks to be putting on a shocked expression.

Could Other You Characters Return?

Marienne was trapped in Joe’s cage during You season 4. She was ultimately rescued by Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman) and was able to fake her death, with Nadia’s help. Once Joe returned to New York, Marienne came across the article that cleared Joe of all the wrongdoing in his murderous marriage to Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), although Nadia was framed for Joe’s crimes.

The latest set photos give credence to the theory that Joe will be brought down, finally and for good, by people from his past. Along with Marienne and perhaps even Nadia, Jenna Ortega’s Ellie is a strong candidate for a season 5 return, especially after her season 4 absence. The showrunner Sera Gamble previously stated plans to bring the character back, but they fell through because Ortega was busy working on Wednesday. For her part, Ortega has also said she would have liked to come back.

Other candidates for a return include Paco (Luca Padovan), who hasn’t been seen since season 1. There is also Dr. Nicky (John Stamos), who recurred early on in the show. The same is true for Sherry (Shalita Grant) and Cary (Travis Van Winkle) from season 3, though they found a way to turn their ordeal with Joe into a success. You season 5 has already made high-profile castings, including The Handmaid’s Tale star Madeline Brewer, True Blood alum Anna Camp, and She-Hulk‘s Griffin Matthews. But it’s also poised to honor the past for an epic conclusion.
