Spy x Family has taken the anime world by storm, offering an adorable but action-filled spy drama that also incorporates slice-of-life and family elements. Loid Forger, the protagonist, leads a double life: family man and father by day, talented and bold spy Twilight by night. His cunning spy schemes, tense missions, and hilarious and sweet interactions with his wife, Yor, and daughter, Anya, are exceedingly entertaining to watch unfold.

Loid’s true identity is Twilight, the cold, calculated spy, but his outlook has shifted, impacted by his newfound family. He adopted Anya and “proposed” to Yor not out of love but to further a crucial mission entitled Operation Strix. However, much to the delight of fans, he seems to be gradually growing attached to his family, whether he’s conscious of that or not. His spy skills have never diminished, and he has been growing more amazing in his abilities by the day, but the family dynamic has brought to light a protective, caring aspect of his personality that was previously not depicted.

Loid Fiercely Defended His Family During Anya’s Entrance Interview

Episode 4, “The Prestigious School’s Interview”

During Anya’s Eden Academy entrance interview, viewers witnessed Loid’s protective and defensive side on full display. One of the interviewers, Murdoch Swan, began to grill Anya with tough and upsetting questions, prying into her life experiences and questioning her past before she was adopted by Loid. When Anya became visibly upset and tear-stricken, Loid was overcome with rage and nearly punched Murdoch, but at the last second, hit the table instead.

Shockingly enough, Anya was still accepted into Eden Academy later on, even after Loid’s display of unexpected violence and his assertion that the interview process was unkind, unfair, and downright awful. Although some may argue that Loid only lashed out because he was concerned about the success of his mission, this doesn’t appear to be the case. Rather, this moment seems to signify a more emotional and justice-seeking side of Loid’s personality, showing how he will protect children from adult cruelty at all costs, even risking Operation Strix.

Loid Brought Anya’s Favorite TV Show, Spy Wars, To Life In An Impressive Castle Setting

Episode 5, “Will They Pass or Fail?”

Much to the complete shock and mystification of the Forger family, Anya was extended an invitation to attend the prestigious and hard to get into Eden Academy. Loid did not take this achievement lightly and praised Anya, even creating a special surprise to reward her hard work and dedication. He and his spy partner, Franky, rented a magnificent castle and re-enacted a spy mission for Anya, straight out of her favorite television show, Spy Wars.

Loid had no problem taking a break from Operation Strix to shower Anya with acclaim and appreciation for her good deed. This showcases his kindness towards others and perhaps signals how he is slowly becoming attached to his new wife and daughter, willing to pull off phenomenal stunts for them. He doesn’t mind dressing up in costume and making a fool of himself, playing a silly role purely to delight his daughter in one of Spy x Family’s funniest moments.

Loid Pulled Off An Intensely Difficult Mission At The Aquarium With His Family

Episode 12, “Penguin Park”

Episode 12 was one of Spy x Family’s most adorable and heartwarming yet, with the Forger family visiting an aquarium filled with hundreds of absolutely precious penguins. However, the family trip to the aquarium became derailed quickly when Loid was given a WISE mission he had to complete urgently, without revealing his assignment to Anya and Yor. Loid snuck away from the family effectively and completed his mission in record time.

He successfully disguised himself as an aquarium worker and infiltrated the penguin enclosure. Once there, he used lightning-fast thinking and astounding intelligence to figure out how to guide the penguins in a certain direction and snatch the microfilm he was searching for from one of them. This mission showcased Loid’s intelligence, as well as his dedication to staying calm and working quickly while still making sure his family had a delightful day out on the town.

Loid “Proposed” To Yor With A Grenade Ring

Episode 2, “Secure a Wife”

Although not the most romantic or tear-inducing marriage proposal in history, Loid’s “proposal” to Yor was no doubt memorable and straight out of an action film. Yor and Loid both agreed to enter into a fake marriage, to serve each of their goals. Loid needed to pretend to have a wife for Operation Strix, and Yor desperately wanted to escape her family’s questioning as to why she wasn’t married yet, prompting Yor to hide her assassin identity by posing as a normal wife and mother.

Since the two settled on this plan in the midst of a tense, violent spy mission, Loid did not have an engagement ring handy, but he did have a grenade pin ring, which led to a comedic scene of him proposing to Yor with it. This scene is a fan-favorite, due to its dramatic but hilarious nature that perfectly sets up the rest of the series and the creation of the Forger family. Although Loid was in the midst of a crucial mission, he still took the time to “propose,” showing he takes his commitments seriously, whether they’re real or fake.

Loid Cunningly Defeated Evil Terrorists

Episode 15, “A New Family Member”

The terrorists Loid faced in episode 15 were truly horrifying and could have easily killed him, but thanks to combined efforts from Anya, Bond, Yor, and himself, the Forger family came out on top once again. Anya left him a message in ketchup, warning him of the dangers that he would be facing, and while looking for Anya, Yor inadvertently disarmed the terrorist. With the help of these factors, Loid carried out the rest of the mission dutifully, catching the evil terrorists and ensuring everyone’s safety.

This mission depicts Loid’s bravery because, even though he faced dangerous elements such as wicked and intelligent terrorists and bombs that could explode at any moment, his calm demeanor never slipped away, and he got the better of the criminals with ease, as always. Loid’s status as the world’s best spy was undoubtedly proven by his work on this mission, as well as the unexpected help of his family members, who aided him from the sidelines with secret messages and defense without him even realizing it.

Loid Infiltrated Anya’s School In An Attempt To Help Her Pass A Crucial Test

Episode 18, “Uncle the Private Tutor”/”Daybreak”

Throughout Spy x Family, Loid has been more than willing to risk anything to ensure Anya’s success at Eden Academy. In episode 18, he even broke into Anya’s school to make sure her recent test grades were up to par. While at the school, he encountered a painfully idiotic fellow spy named Daybreak, who threatened to foil his plans at every turn with his ineptitude, clumsiness, and careless way of handling his missions.

Although these scenes are some of the series’ most comedic, they represent truly frustrating and nerve-wracking moments for Loid, as he was forced to clean up the messes of the less talented spy. This was one of Loid’s most challenging missions yet, but not at all for the reasons he was expecting. Nevertheless, Loid kept his cool, displayed more of the clever trademark spy work fans love him for, and saved both himself and Daybreak from being caught altering students’ grades, although shockingly Anya did (just barely) receive a passing grade, even without Loid’s assistance.

Loid Denied Fiona’s Advances And Stayed Loyal To Yor And His Family

Episode 21, “Nightfall”/”First Fit of Jealousy”

In episode 21, Loid’s devotion and dedication to the family he has chosen became crystal clear to viewers, when another woman attempted to wreck the home Loid had carefully built. Fiona Frost, also known as Nightfall, is a fellow spy agent and Loid’s coworker in Spy x Family. She has always had an intense, uncontrollable crush on Loid that borders on obsession.

In this episode, she begs Loid to replace Yor and give her Yor’s spot in the Forger family. She sees herself as the obvious choice for Loid’s wife, claiming she loves him more and would be a more effective asset due to her shared spy background with Loid. However, shockingly, he turned her down boldly and reasserted his commitment to Yor and Anya, which was truly refreshing to behold. Loid’s loyalty may be attributed largely to his dedication to Operation Strix, but it is easy to assume he also has developed some level of affection for Yor and Anya by this point, proving he has become more of a loving dad than even he realizes.

Loid Became A Tennis Legend To Retrieve A Prized Painting

Episode 23, “The Unwavering Path”

Yet another one of Loid’s seemingly endless array of talents was revealed in this episode: tennis. As a spy, Loid must possess at least a base level of knowledge in every subject because, at any time, these different areas of expertise could prove crucial to a mission. In this mission, he and Fiona Frost teamed up to compete against the Campbells, two unstoppable tennis legends.

This mission proved Loid’s intellectual skills and intuition are unmatched, as he was able to rapidly ascertain that the Campbell’s were cheating, seeing right through their schemes. Loid’s unbeatable gut instincts make him a nearly perfect and unmatched spy, and thankfully, he and Fiona won the match largely due to their instincts and careful eyes when watching the Campbells. Invincible intuitiveness is just one more in the list of the numerous aspects that make Loid one of anime’s best and most intimidating spies ever.

Loid Comforted Yor When She Was Feeling Insecure, Affirming His Devotion To Her

Episode 24, “The Role of a Mother and Wife”/”Shopping with Friends”

Not every standout and memorable Spy x Family Loid Forger moment consists of him beating up bad guys or cleverly carrying out a mission. Some of his best interactions and scenes depict the lesser-known parts of the accomplished spy’s life. Shortly after collaborating with Fiona Frost on a mission, Yor became insecure and incredibly jealous, doubting herself and fearing Loid may kick her out of the Forger family.

Loid swiftly took action, taking Yor out on a romantic evening and doing everything within his power to alleviate her worries. In this episode, Loid was truly loving, showered his wife in affection and kindness, and proved himself to be loyal, almost to a fault. Although some may argue his only reason for comforting Yor was Operation Strix, it is evident through Loid’s genuine expressions and thoughtful gestures that something deeper may be slowly growing between him and Yor. He seems to truly enjoy and relish in her presence, and the role of model husband he is playing seems more authentic by the day.

Loid Convinced Donovan Desmond To Be More Encouraging To His Son, Damian

Episode 25, “First Contact”

In the final episode of Spy x Family’s second season, Loid achieved a long-awaited and hard-won goal. He finally encountered his target, Donovan Desmond, in person. Throughout the series, his chief mission had been gaining access to the influential man. During this brief encounter, Loid carefully chose topics of discussion, hoping Donovan would recall him fondly afterward, and he could continue interacting with him in the future as he works on Operation Strix.

However, one surprisingly moving moment occured during the conversation, displaying some of Loid’s true feelings for his stepdaughter, Anya, as he explained how he is patient and supportive of her no matter what, revealing how excellent of a father he is. Loid also encouraged Damian Desmond, the man’s son, and raved over his schoolwork, urging Donovan to offer his son kind words too. Previously, Damian had expressed feelings of inadequacy and being overshadowed by his siblings, so it was thoughtful of Loid to extend such a kind gesture to the boy, even though he had been bullying Anya. With this action, Loid proved himself to be compassionate and sympathetic, standing up for those who need it always.
