The Halo franchise is already known for having some excellent co-op campaigns for players to enjoy with their friends but one team of fans wants to go even further and create an entirely original adventure that’s perfect for four players. Ever since 343 Industries put out the excellent Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a package that bundles together the franchise’s older entries, the studio has worked hard on supporting it with new multiplayer options and seasons of content. Yet some players want more campaign adventures which is where RedShift enters the conversation.

Posted to ModDB by developer Blimp Brigade, the RedShift mod for The Master Chief Collection aims to introduce a wholly original co-operative campaign for up to four players.

With an entirely new story and new levels that have been created from the ground up specifically for the add-on, the team notes that it’s taking plenty of inspiration from Halo: Combat Evolved, the original game in the series, and its sequel Halo 2. To show off what fans can expect from RedShift, Blimp Brigade released a brief reveal trailer on YouTube that spotlights the world they’re building and it’s already looking impressive.

The aesthetically impressive footage confirms that RedShift‘s campaign will be set during the Human-Covenant War, specifically after the fall of Reach, a major moment in Halo canon. Various biomes are spotlighted, including a tranquil forest in what appears to be fall as orange leaves fall to the grass, an ornate temple, and even an underwater base that the Covenant itself seemingly runs. It’s unknown who is providing the voice-over for the trailer, but based on the dialogue it seems safe to assume that the iconic Master Chief isn’t the person speaking.

Halo fans excited to try out RedShift may need to taper their enthusiasm though, as Blimp Brigade states that the project is still in very early development and likely won’t be released any time soon. Given that the team consists of volunteers who are working on the mod as a passion project, it makes sense that development may take longer than expected. Despite this, the group did confirm that it was prepared to show off a completed level at a recent event that was, unfortunately, canceled.

The Halo franchise is known for offering excellent single-player adventures that double as fantastic co-op experiences. Halo 2 and Halo 3, in particular, are known for boasting two fantastic campaigns that allow players to work together to stop The Covenant and the sinister force that is The Flood. While the older games allowed for split-screen co-op, the most recent game in the series, Halo Infinite, unfortunately, dropped this feature but still allows for online cooperative play.
