Poison Ivy’s ongoing comic run has seen the Gotham Siren go through various evolutions both literally and figuratively, but it seems that Pamela may be meeting her end soon based on recent solicitations that tease the green-loving villain getting her very own The Death of Superman moment. If Poison Ivy does meet her end, the implications will be far and wide, especially for the beloved Harlivy ship.

On sale July 3, 2024, Poison Ivy #24 by G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara will see the beginning of an exceptionally dark arc for the Gotham Siren. The synopsis for issue #24 is prefaced with five ominous words: “The Death of Pamela Isley,” leaving little room for interpretation with its straightforwardness.

THE DEATH OF PAMELA ISLEY Dr. Jason Woodrue, the Floronic Man (a.k.a. Floro), has stacked the deck in his favor. Neither Ivy’s powers nor her allies are enough to put an end to Floro and his devilish plan to turn Ivy’s victims against her. As time, and her own supply of blood, runs out, one thing becomes apparent: to bring the outbreak of the parasitic fungi, Ophiocordyceps Lamia, to an end, Poison Ivy will have to kill both her own creator and herself.

Additionally, this presumed title for the arc draws a direct parallel to the Superman storyline where the Man of Steel dies at the hands of Doomsday—The Death of Superman. Based on this, it is safe to assume that Pamela will be meeting her end very soon.

Poison Ivy Could Be Meeting Her End Soon in a Storyline That Echoes The Death of Superman

In addition to the ominous “The Death of Pamela Isley,” the synopsis further emphasizes that Poison Ivy’s ongoing war against Dr. Jason Woodrue, her once mentor, is not going well, as time begins to run out to stop the outbreak of the parasitic fungi, Ophiocordyceps Lamia. The teaser ends with “Poison Ivy will have to kill both her own creator and herself. Hence, the Gotham Siren will be facing her own unique Doomsday in this upcoming comic. Also worth noting is the cover art, which features a seemingly dead Poison Ivy laid out to rest, further driving home the theme of death.

However, there may be some clever wordplay at work in this teaser, indicating that Poison Ivy won’t be meeting a permanent end. The teaser specifically singles out Ivy’s human name, “Pamela Isley,” rather than her plant-themed name that she typically goes by, “Poison Ivy,” or even the more common “Ivy” for short. Hence, Wilson may be teasing a more figurative end of Ivy, one that affects her identity as Pamela Isley more than anything else. Despite this being a somewhat positive twist, there are still dark implications that would come with the death of Ivy’s human side.

The Death of Pamela Isley Would Mean the End of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s Romance

The death of Ivy’s humanity would have serious implications for the Harlivy romance since it’s the human side of Ivy that loves Harley. Hence, if this side of her were to die, so would her love for Harley. This would be tragic for fans of the ship but even more tragic for Harley, who would have to suffer through the death of the woman she loved despite Ivy still technically being alive. Hence, this version of Ivy would virtually be a stranger to her. Only time will tell if Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s romance will survive this story arc.
