Zoe Saldaña Would Be “Grateful” To Do Star Trek “One Last Time”

Zoe Saldaña would be “grateful” to beam back aboard the USS Enterprise for Star Trek 4. Saldaña reinvented Lt. Nyota Uhura for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movie trilogy, but the last time the Starship Enterprise warped into outer space was in the Justin Lin-directed Star Trek Beyond in 2016. Like her Star Trek cast mates Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, Saldaña is keen to don her Starfleet uniform for another big-screen adventure.

ComicBook.com interviewed Zoe Saldaña about the DVD and Blu-ray release of her Paramount+ series, Special Ops: Lioness, and asked the actress about the recent report that Star Trek 4 is still in development, which was described as “the final chapter” of the Chris Pine-led Star Trek movie saga. Zoe has nothing but praise for her Star Trek experience and wants to play Lt. Uhura once more. Read Saldaña’s quote below:

I know. I mean, I heard what you heard in the trades. I just heard that they’re gearing up to do a new one with a younger, sort of, take on it… I don’t know if it’s from the before or the after, but that they really still hope to grab all of us veterans and and bring us back for one last round. Listen, I know it’s a lot to wrangle a whole bunch of people with busy schedules. But working with J.J. Abrams, and for J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot, was always just a wonderful and beautiful experience for me. So, if I get to do that one last time, I would be so grateful.

The Current State Of Star Trek Movies

4 Star Trek movies are reported or rumored to be in development

As Zoe Saldaña referenced, a recent report stated that there are potentially 4 new Star Trek movies in the works. A Star Trek origin movie set “decades before” J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek (2009) is in development with director Toby Haynes (Star Wars: Andor) and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) attached. Further, Star Trek 4 is supposedly still in the works with the plan being to bring back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldaña and the rest of the USS Enterprise cast for a final adventure.

Meanwhile, Patrick Stewart has been vocal about his desire to return for a Star Trek: Picard movie, although this has not been substantiated despite numerous outlets reporting Stewart’s comments on a recent Happy Sad Confused podcast mean that a Picard movie is coming. The only Star Trek movie that is actually filming is Star Trek: Section 31 starring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh. Section 31 is the first made-for-streaming on Paramount+ Star Trek movie, and it’s directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi from a script by Craig Sweeny. Hopefully, Zoe Saldaña and fans get their mutual wish for Star Trek 4 to finally get made.
