Zoe Saldana Shares Her Reaction to Gamora’s Infinity War Story

Warning: Major SPOILERS for Avengers: Infinity War

Zoe Saldana shares her reaction to finding out the role Gamora was set to have in Avengers: Infinity War. With the arrival of Thanos, everyone involved with Infinity War teased major deaths were on the horizon. Theories pointed to Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Vision (Paul Bettany) being the most likely to go, but that was only a portion of the devastation. Not including Thanos wiping away half of the universe, the biggest death in the film surprisingly went to Gamora.

Thanks to elements at play here and in Avengers 4, many are already predicting that most of the deaths will somehow be reversed. Whether or not that happens for Gamora is up in the air, but the decision to kill her is a major one for the time being. As difficult as it could be for fans to see a beloved character go, you can only imagine how Saldana took the news.

Fans don’t have to use their imagination any longer thanks to Los Angeles Times‘ new interview with the star. Saldana was asked directly when she found out that Gamora was set to die and shared her reaction upon learning her time in the MCU was coming to an end.

I learned very early on. The producers called me and they told me. And of course there’s a shock to your system. I’m so grateful, this run has been amazing, but you’re so not even ready for that. But then once some of the things were discussed, I understood that it just makes sense. In order for you to understand the degree of evil that lies within the core of Thanos, you have to circle in on his own children. So I completely understood. I loved being a part of this unforgettable journey.

Zoe Saldana Shares Her Reaction to Gamora’s Infinity War Story

Saldana noticeably talks about her time in the MCU in the past tense, indicating that this is really it. But, there’s a variety of ways for her to come back. If she is returning in some capacity for the fourth movie, she’s not saying so right now.

I don’t know. [Laughs] For the sake of the devoted fans out there — we don’t want to rob them of an amazing experience. It’s all for them that we do what we do and we also protect what we do.

Even though Saldana is saying she’s not going to spoil a possible return, she may have already done that. In doing press for Infinity War, Saldana seemingly confirmed that she is part of Avengers 4 – so much so that she’d be involved in reshoots later this year. That doesn’t necessarily mean that she’s definitely being brought back, but it would mean fans will see her again.

Whether Gamora stays dead, is revived thanks to time-travel, or brought back to life if her soul is in the Soul Stone, Saldana loves being part of the MCU. She says as much again in this interview, but she’s made it clear she loves having a role that makes kids happy – no matter what Hollywood elitists think. An attitude like this makes her a great spokesperson for the MCU to have. If this is really the end as she suggests in this latest interview, then Gamora and Saldana will truly be missed.
