Zendaya Commenting On Alfred Molina Fuels Spider-Man 3 Speculation

Zendaya recently commented on Alfred Molina, leading to speculation about his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man 3. Molina was reported to be involved in the film in December and is said to be reprising his role as Doc Ock from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Molina’s casting came amidst a flurry of announcements teasing the scope of the upcoming film and its potential Multiverse connections. Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man films.

On top of the two villains, Tobey Maguire is reportedly a part of the Spider-Man 3 cast, along with a slew of other familiar faces. Charlie Cox is rumored to be reprising his role as Daredevil in the film, but in what capacity remains unclear. Benedict Cumberbatch is also in the mix as Doctor Strange, taking over the role of Peter Parker’s mentor after Tony Stark’s tragic death in Avengers: Endgame. Even Elizabeth Olsen recently teased that she, too, could be involved in Spider-Man 3 in some capacity, especially “if everyone’s in it.”

While Marvel is staying mum on just who is in the cast, Zendaya recently took a moment to comment on Molina. During her Actors on Actors episode from Variety, Zendaya spoke with Carey Mulligan about their films this year. Mulligan recently starred in Promising Young Woman and, in that film, Molina plays a shameful lawyer looking for redemption. When Mulligan brought Molina up, Zendaya said he is “so nice,” with Mulligan quickly agreeing.

Though this is far from confirmation Molina appears in Spider-Man 3, it does add to the speculation. With everything so up in the air and Marvel’s silence on the matter, it’s hard to tell the difference between fact and fiction. It’s also unknown when Zendaya’s conversation with Mulligan was filmed. Without that information, it’s hard to know if Zendaya and Molina met in another setting. It seems possible, though, that they crossed paths on the set of Spider-Man 3, as it’s the most likely project the two would be working on together.

If Molina does appear in Spider-Man 3, it adds credence to rumors about the film’s connection to the Multiverse. At this point, there are too many coincidences (Doctor Strange’s involvement, the various cast members reportedly involved) to overlook. Many have debated the merits of whether or not this oversized cast will be beneficial to the film, but it looks like Spider-Man 3 is shaping up to be a major entry in Phase 4 of the MCU regardless. The familiar faces could make it one of the most exciting Spider-Man movies yet.
