Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – How To Beat Phantom Ganon (Deku Tree Chasm)

Phantom Ganon while seemingly sounding familiar has a makeover in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Additionally, while fighting him in and of itself is a complicated task so is actually finding him sometimes as he is not the same as most traditional mini-bosses who are seen wandering the overworld.

In order to face off against Phantom Ganon, players first need to fight the Gloom Hands. Once they are defeated, they will seemingly disappear only for a new health bar to appear indicating Phantom Ganon has arrived. Though there are several of these fights in TOTK, the most prominent fight with this version of him will occur in the Deku Tree Chasm.

How To Destroy The Gloom Hands

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – How To Beat Phantom Ganon (Deku Tree Chasm)

As stated, in order to fight Phantom Ganon, players first need to defeat the Gloom Hands as he does not spawn on his own. Gloom Hands are likely to jump-scare those not expecting them as they will appear as a moving area of Gloom on the floor at first, but when close enough, several hands will emerge from the Tears of the Kingdom Gloom and attempt to grab Link.

When they do grab him, he needs to attempt to shake them off as quickly as possible to avoid losing hearts. The best way to beat them is to gain some high ground and fire down on them from above with Flower Bomb Arrows until they are destroyed.

How To Defeat Phantom Ganon

Now that the Gloom Hands are taken care of, the real challenger will appear. Phantom Ganon’s health bar will immediately replace the Gloom Hands one, and he will waste no time going in for the attack. It’s worth noting that there are actually three different versions of Phantom Ganon, so depending on which version is encountered, he may have a Sword, Spear, or Club.

Regardless of the type of Tears of the Kingdom weapon, the general method for beating him is the same. Link should also preferably prep for this fight by equipping any Gloom Resistance available to him.

The main thing to note when heading in is that Link needs to be prepared with several Tears of the Kingdom Hearts, otherwise, he will die from any blow Phantom Ganon is able to land. When it comes to actually fighting him, the main thing to do is parry his attacks while memorizing his strike patterns and timing so that Link can dodge and pull off a Flurry Rush to do as much damage as possible.

Link may also choose to keep his distance and use ranged attacks from above, but this may take longer. Be sure to have a lot of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom health-boosting food before attempting these fights.
