Now, Snyder reveals his favorite movies to Letterboxd. Sitting down with the popular review site, Snyder was asked to list his top four favorites.
The four that came out on top for Snyder were Star Wars, All That Jazz, Excalibur, and Blue Velvet. Snyder discussed the inevitability of his Star Wars pick, saying that “You don’t include that, and you’re my age, I take small issue. I’d be like, really?”

Both Star Wars and Excalibur are unsurprising picks for Snyder. As Snyder notes, Star Wars is beloved by so many people, and a clear inspiration for his current career trajectory as he bends towards more intergalactic action with the Rebel Moon series. Excalibur, a 1981 film based on Merlin the magician, is different in scope but still finds itself in the fantasy epic category that Snyder draws from in his career.
The other two choices on Snyder’s list are far more surprising coming from this director. Blue Velvet is a bold film directed by David Lynch, a notable auteur director. Though Snyder’s artistry would widely be considered lesser than the likes of Lynch, Snyder’s desire to have full authorship would be reflected in the bold energy of a director like Lynch. All That Jazz comes as the biggest surprise on the Snyder list, as the dark showbiz drama is disparate genre-wise from the bulk of Snyder’s oeuvre.
