Zack Snyder Gets Candid Whether 1 Original Rebel Moon Character Could Return Despite Their Death

Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder addresses whether one original character could return in a future film, despite their on-screen death. Released on Netflix in December, the first installment in Snyder’s space opera saga follows Sofia Boutella’s Kora, a warrior with a dark past who organizes the defense of a peaceful farming colony against the evil Imperium. Ray Fisher appears as part of the first film’s cast as Darrian Bloodaxe, one of Kora’s allies, but the character tragically meets his end during the explosive Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire ending.

In a recent interview with THR, Snyder comments on whether Bloodaxe could potentially return in a prospective Rebel Moon 3 or beyond. Although the character’s death seemed quite conclusive, the director teases that it’s certainly not impossible that Darrian will eventually make some kind of comeback. Check out Snyder’s full comment below when asked if the door is open for Fisher’s character’s return:

It could be [open]. It’s hard to say. That’s a question mark.

8 Reasons Rebel Moon Part 2 Reviews Are So Bad

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two is finally out on Netflix, bombing with another low Rotten Tomatoes score. Here’s what critics are saying.

Will The Rebel Moon Franchise Continue?

Why The Expansion Of Zack Snyder’s Franchise Is Not Yet A Sure Thing

Snyder has been clear that the end of Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver is not envisioned as the end of the saga. The film’s final moments even feature a tease for one crucial storyline moving forward. To that end, franchise co-writer Kurt Johnstad recently told Screen Rant that, should Netflix want to move forward, Snyder would be interested in making as many as six Rebel Moon movies in total.

While the ambition is clearly there on Snyder’s side to continue to expand the franchise, it’s not yet clear whether these plans will actually come to fruition. The reviews for the first movie were overwhelmingly negative, and the Rebel Moon 2 reviews are even worse. As seen in the chart below, the Rotten Tomatoes critics’ scores for both movies mark a career-low for Snyder, and not even the audience scores really redeem the films.

Rotten Tomatoes Critics’ Score

Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire

57%

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver

The key metric regarding whether Rebel Moon 3 happens, however, will be viewership. According to Snyder, the first Rebel Moon had 90 million views by March, which, while impressive, still puts it far short of the streamer’s 10 top movies of all time list. It remains to be seen how the second film fares, but the somewhat lukewarm response to the initial installment could hurt the sequel’s performance. If another Rebel Moon movie does move forward, however, it sounds like audiences could be seeing Darrian’s return.
