Zachary Levi Comments On DCEU Actors Returning In James Gunn’s DC Universe

Shazam! actor Zachary Levi reacts to James Gunn’s DC Universe consisting of some familiar DCEU stars from past movies and TV shows. Once Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opens in theaters later this month, that will be the proper end for the DCEU, which began all the way back in 2013 with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. However, as one continuity ends, Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe is on its way from DC Studios.

During a recent interview with Comic Book, Levi talked a bit about some of the DCEU actors getting cast as new characters in Gunn’s DC Universe, and if he would want to get tapped for a new role. While initially confused about getting cast as a different character, Levi gave the following candid response:

What do you mean new character? [Levi listens to the explanation of Jason Momoa being rumored to play someone else while Sean Gunn has been cast as Maxwell Lord.] But Sean was never established in the DC Universe. I mean he has played Marvel characters, but this is his first DC character… [Interviewer explains his roles in The Suicide Squad.] Oh, in The Suicide Squad, but those are kind of more like cameos, I don’t know. Listen, when you’re the brother of the guy who runs DC, I guess you get to play whoever you want. As far as Jason though… Are you referring to Lobo? The only character I have heard rumored was that Jason really wanted to play Lobo, but I don’t think that’s happening. I don’t know, maybe he will!

How To Watch DCEU Movies In Order (By Release Date & Chronologically)

The DCEU’s timeline may be about to be rebooted in the DC Universe, but here’s how to watch the DCEU in release order or chronological order.

Which DCEU Actors Are Back For James Gunn’s DC Universe?

In terms of returning DCEU actors playing the same characters, Viola Davis is set to reprise the role of Amanda Waller in her own spinoff show, Waller, which will be airing on Max. Peacemaker season 2 is still a go, with John Cena continuing to play the titular character, and Gunn has already confirmed that Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante will be back for the DC Universe. Steve Agee’s John Economos is also set to appear in Waller and Creature Commandos, while Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt is also said to be back, but it is unclear in which DC Universe movies and/or TV shows.

Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle, is another player who will continue in the DC Universe, while his solo movie will be loosely connected. Though Sean Gunn is playing Weasel again in Creature Commandos, he will also be voicing G.I. Robot, and will play Maxwell Lord, all in animation and live-action. Nathan Fillion, who played T.D.K. in the DCEU, has been tapped to play Guy Gardner, aka Green Lantern, in Superman: Legacy.

Another DCEU actor who may be back for Gunn’s new continuity is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, as it hasn’t been definitively stated if she is done. Time will tell if Gunn ends up hiring other DCEU veterans, whether it be for big or small roles, while he mostly focuses on tapping new blood for the DC Universe. Hopefully, 2024 will clarify more about what other DCEU actors may take part in the new DC Universe.
