Among those titles was Secret Reverse one of many upcoming projects from Marvel collaboration with Viz.

During New York Comic Con, Viz Media announced many titles coming out in summer 2022 including Junji Ito’s The Liminal Zone, Syu Sakuratani’s Rooster Fight, The Promised Neverland: Art Book World, Death Note: Short Stories, Naruto novels featuring Kakashi/Naruto/Sasuke, The Elusive Samurai, Akissa Saiké’s Ghost Reaper Girl, and so much more. The publishing company also released the official Volume 1 cover for Deadpool: Samurai by Sanshiro Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi set to release February 8th, 2022, and Marvel Meow by Nao Fuji officially releases on October 12th. Another announcement also included Secret Reverse, a manga written and illustrated by Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi.

Mangaka Kazuki Takahashi is renowned for his most popular manga series Yu-Gi-Oh!, which was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1996 to 2004. As part of Marvel’s newest collaboration with Viz Media Takahashi was brought on to write and illustrate Secret Reverse, a manga that premiered in Shonen Jump Plus in 2019. Unlike most manga, this comic was designed to be read from left to right to recreate the feel of a classic Marvel comic. Viz Media announced that it is set to release the manga in English in summer 2022. The collaboration is part of a series of manga projects including Deadpool: Samurai and Marvel Meow.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Creator’s Marvel Heroes Manga Gets English Translation

Secret Reverse is a two-part series that follows Tony Stark and Peter Parker’s trip to Japan to attend a popular video game convention. The heroes team up as Iron Man and Spider-Man after coming across a villain named Kaioh who’s invented a popular card game called “Secret Reverse.” As if right out of Takahashi’s Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kaiho is the CEO of a major game technology company and in search of an evil new technology. The project initially debuted during the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3, which included movie releases such as Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Avengers: Endgame, which made it fitting to see Tony and Peter teaming up in the manga.

The project not only manages to tell a classic Marvel superhero story, but also keeps to the spirit of Kazuki Takahashi’s early Yu-Gi-Oh! manga with the Shadow Games. Fans eager to see how Iron Man and Spider-Man would fare in a Yu-Gi-Oh! style world should check out the Secret Reverse manga when it is released next summer.
