Yu-Gi-Oh!: 10 Modern Cards That Joey Would Totally Have In His Deck

Yu-Gi-Oh!: 10 Modern Cards That Joey Would Totally Have In His Deck

The original Yu-Gi-Oh! anime came out many years ago, and since its release, a massive amount of new cards have been created. While some of these cards wouldn’t be considered modern by current standards, plenty of them are completely new to anime characters such as Joey Wheeler.

If Joey were to make a new deck now, he would have a ton of brand-new cards to play with. Some would be good, some would be great, and some would still be bad. But if that doesn’t describe Joey’s deck, what does? It would, as viewers would expect, include so many Red-Eyes cards.

Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon

Yu-Gi-Oh!: 10 Modern Cards That Joey Would Totally Have In His Deck

Joey only ever really used the original Red-Eyes Black Dragon in the anime, he never got a chance to use all of its retrains. One of those is Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon. This monster has the same stats as Red-Eyes Black Dragon with a few additional effects.

It can only be summoned by tributing a Red-Eyes monster, and if it is destroyed by a card effect, it can bring a level-seven or lower Red-Eyes monster from the graveyard to the field. If it’s the original, its attack points are doubled. That’s 4800 attack points minimum!

Ferocious Flame Swordsman

Flame Swordsman in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime

Ferocious Flame Swordsman is a retrained Link version of Joey’s Flame Swordsman monster. The monster starts with 1300 attack points and powers up all of the warrior monsters on the field.

Additionally, when it is destroyed in most cases it can special summon a non-Link warrior monster that must be banished when it leaves the field again. It sounds like a card Joey would use at least.

Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon

Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is a fusion monster between Dark Magician and any dragon monster. It cannot be destroyed by card effects, it can destroy a monster of the opponent’s and inflict damage based on that card’s attack as many times as there were normal monsters used to summon this card, and once per turn, this card can destroy a card if the player discards a card. This card then gains 1000 attack points.

This card is a straight-up beast that may even be banned in the real-life card game soon for its strength. This would finally be a card for Joey that would be truly amazing.

Time Wizard Of Tomorrow

Time Wizard of Tomorrow with the original

Time Wizard of Tomorrow is a fusion monster that requires the original as a material. This card has the same effect as the original with a twist. As many monsters on the field as possible are destroyed, and half of their combined attack points will be applied as damage.

The coin toss will then decide which player takes the damage. An upgrade over the original, that is for sure.

Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon

Red-Eyes with Darkness Metal Dragon

Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon can be special summoned by banishing a dragon-type monster that the player controls. Every turn, they can then special summon a dragon from the graveyard or hand that isn’t Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon.

This card can certainly be incredibly deadly in the right circumstances, as a dragon per turn is very, very powerful.

The Claw Of Hermos

The Claw Of Hermos Card Art

The Claw of Hermos is the real-life version of the anime card, The Claw of Hermos. Essentially, the card allows the player to special summon a fusion monster that lists this card’s name. It can only be used once per turn.

Joey was all over The Claw of Hermos in the anime, so it makes sense that he would use this card to bring out fusion monster after fusion monster to take down his opponents.

Gearfried The Red-Eyes Iron Knight

Gearfried The Iron Knight

Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight is an enhanced version of the original Gearfried the Iron Knight. The effect monster can destroy an equip card that is attached to itself once per turn in order to destroy a spell or trap card that the opponent controls.

Additionally, for the same cost, this card can special summon a Red-Eyes monster from the graveyard that is level-seven or less. Sounds like a Joey card beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Jinzo – Lord

Jinzo in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime as Leichter's Deck Master

Jinzo – Lord is a barely upgraded version of Jinzo. Essentially, it can only be summoned by tributing a regular Jinzo, and does almost the same thing as Jinzo besides being able to destroy face-up trap cards in order to inflict 300 points of damage for each one to the opponent.

This card isn’t all that great, but it is very much a Joey card.

Metamorphosed Insect Queen

Besides being really gross, Metamorphosed Insect Queen is an upgraded version of the original card with new effects, which Joey won after defeating Weevil Underwood.

If there is another insect on the field, the player can only have their cards destroyed by battle. If this card attacks, one monster can be tributed in order to allow it to attack again. As this card summons a token every turn, they can easily be used for fodder to do so.

Comrade Swordsman Of Landstar

Swordsman of Landstar Yu-Gi-Oh!

Comrade Swordsman of Landstar boosts the attack points of allied warriors by 400 points, but it only has 500 attack points.

The original was somehow worse, so this would actually somehow be an improvement for Joey. Joey doesn’t always pick the best cards, but he’d definitely enjoy seeing the new variations of the ones he already uses.
