Younger: 10 Memes Only True Fans Of The Show Will Understand

After seven seasons, Younger finally wrapped up its story, much to both fans’ delight and sadness. Over the years, devoted fans became invested in the story, thanks to it having just the right amount of drama, comedy, love, and friendship. Whether the moment was meant to be comedic or not, there was something about Liza that made it light-hearted. Despite going through so much in life and feeling like she lost so many years of her professional career, she came out on top and always with a smile on her face. As one of the friendliest characters on Younger, if Liza were a real person, fans would love to hang out with her.

While most people, by now, know the gist of what the series was about, only true fans who watched every episode will understand the memes that circulate about it.

Don’t Bug Me

Diana was the more humorous and exaggerated version of Meryl Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, from the 2006 movie The Devil Wears Prada. But while Diana came across as cold, thoughtless, selfish, and arrogant, she actually did care. Her behavior was more a defense mechanism after dealing with a failed marriage and an unfulfilled personal life.

Nonetheless, when she said these words to Liza on her first day working as Diane’s personal assistant, it was too hilarious, like many of Diana’s many lines as one of the funniest characters on Younger. Any fan knows that Diana never held back anything.

Good, Perfect, Bad

Every frame in this meme comes from the same scene, where Kelsey reams Josh out for not revealing that he had a girlfriend in his magazine feature article. Yet it so succinctly describes the show on the whole.

In the actual scene, unbeknownst to Kelsey, Liza asked Josh not to mention her because the lie was still under wraps. Instead of frustratingly defending himself after being yelled at by Kelsey, Josh kept quiet and didn’t reveal Liza’s secret – one of many reasons fans deemed him the best character on Younger. Meanwhile, Liza, who was seemingly the nice and innocent one who got better and better as the show progressed, was actually the villain of the whole situation.

Whether the show was viewed live as it aired over the seven seasons or binged in one sitting before the finale, friends were likely on one another’s cases to watch the latest episode or catch up quickly so they could discuss.

With every episode, there was indeed something to discuss. What was Liza up to now? Would Empirical make it through another financial setback? Would Liza’s secret eventually be revealed? There were so many questions, twists, and turns. Miss or be late watching one episode and it’s easy to fall way behind in the conversation.

Advice

Whether it has to do with love, career, family, or friends, the best friends give advice honestly and openly, even when the person on the receiving end doesn’t want to hear it. There were a lot of questionable dating choices on Younger, and the friends rarely held back their true opinions, even if they did sometimes try to sugarcoat the truth.

Maggie was one of the most real friends of all, always happy to dole out advice to Liza, even if Liza didn’t always listen. And when she did, Maggie always had this look about her that meant she was listening intently but was also about the deliver some potentially harsh truths.

Saturday Night Vs Sunday Morning

There were so many times on the show when Kelsey attended a party, a work trip, or went out with her girlfriends and ended up totally hungover the next morning. Being in her 20s, she was able to bounce back fairly quickly.

Nonetheless, anyone can relate to this photo that perfectly depicts what it’s like to have an amazing night out only to deal with the after-effects and potential regret the next morning. Kelsey’s relatable nature is what made the character one of the most likable characters on Younger.

Hey, Girl

The world heard a collective sigh of relief when Liza and Josh reunited at the end of Younger. Even if it wasn’t explicitly stated that they would begin dating once again, it was enough for fans who felt the pair belonged together all along.

This simple meme is a play on the popular, “Hey, girl” meme theme, but featuring Josh. It demonstrates exactly how most fans felt whenever they saw Josh on screen. While it was initially his physical attractiveness that fans (and Liza) fell in love with, over time, he did so many things for Liza, both when they were together and even when they weren’t, that were small gestures of affection, yet meant so much.

A Good Friend

From the get-go, Liza and Kelsey were fast friends. It was refreshing to see an ambitious, 20-something embracing another woman in the workplace who was clearly talented. Rather than try to compete with Liza, Kelsey did whatever she could to help bring Liza up. And Liza did the same for Kelsey.

They truly embodied the concept of strong women lifting one another up versus tearing each other down. It’s why they had one of the best friendship moments on Younger.

Awkward!

Talk about awkward! Kelsey said this to Liza before knowing the truth about her age, which might make her think back to that moment and cringe. Liza did, in fact, miss out on a lot of the single fun of her 20s since she got married and had a child young.

That said, she still loved her life and got a second chance at the youthful fun she missed out on. She proved that age is nothing but a number. Nonetheless, it didn’t make this comment any less awkward at the time.

Meta Memes

In true meta fashion, this is a meme of when Kelsey screamed at Thad for constantly reaching out to her and sharing memes he thought were funny. Clearly, Kelsey did not find them funny, but rather annoying and distracting.

Thad was obviously just sending them as a way to reach out to Kelsey since he clearly had feelings for her. Nonetheless, the meta-aspect of this meme is too funny not to include.

More Wine, Please

A meme from Younger showing Diana pointing to her glass asking for more wine.

Diana never held back. While at a boring and strange client meeting, she could barely keep from rolling her eyes. All she could do was desperately ask the waiter to keep filling her glass with wine so she could make it through to the end of the night without saying something she might regret or that might compromise the company’s chances at making a deal.

Diana didn’t shy away from enjoying a nice glass of wine whenever she could. It was part of who she was, which was a fierce, competent, talented marketing executive in the field of publishing who was missing one thing in her life: love.
