Young Sheldon Season 7 Mary Update Sets Up George’s Death Few Episodes Before The Finale

With just a few episodes left, Young Sheldon season 7 may have finally laid the groundwork for George’s death. Although The Big Bang Theory paved the way for the prequel to happen, the nerd-centric sitcom also gave Young Sheldon its biggest problems. For starters, CBS is forced to cancel Young Sheldon despite its continued popularity because it is approaching the point in the timeline when Sheldon needs to move out of Medford to California. Long before that, however, the spinoff’s biggest issue because of The Big Bang Theory‘s canon was George’s demise.

George never got to physically appear in The Big Bang Theory because he was already dead when it started. Through Sheldon’s stories, which were mostly backed up by Mary, the Cooper patriarch had an established image as a no-good father. Young Sheldon, however, continuously challenges that by depicting a flawed but ultimately, committed family man. George’s character rehabilitation continues in season 7 when the prequel retconned his cheating scandal story. Now, the Cooper patriarch is one of the best characters in the series, but due to the continuity, the spinoff has no choice but to kill him off.

The specifics of George’s death are uncertain. Since his demise is supposedly unexpected, Young Sheldon can get away with not setting it up explicitly. That said, with just several episodes left before the Coopers’ Texas story officially ends, the prequel may have finally dropped an official clue about the incident. Per the synopsis for Young Sheldon season 7, episode 10, “A Little Snip and Teaching Old Dogs,” George undergoes a vasectomy without even his wife knowing.

George Sr. is worried that Mary wants another baby and gets a vasectomy behind her back. Meanwhile, Drs. Linkletter and Sturgis go to Sheldon for science tutoring.

While the procedure became popular in the ’60s and is fairly normal now, it’s worth noting that Young Sheldon is set in the early ’90s in rural Texas. Since George is doing this haphazardly and without any involvement from his family, he is more prone to having complications. While Mary can be quite insistent about her wants, going under a medical procedure on his own can be risky for George, especially since he already has some underlying health conditions. While the vasectomy may not be the ultimate cause of his death, it may contribute to it.

George’s Death Needs To Happen Sooner Rather Than Later.

Regardless, George’s death in Young Sheldon is inevitable. Set images hint that the cast filmed George’s funeral, which means that the show is tackling the tragedy and its immediate aftermath. With only a handful of episodes left, however, CBS cannot wait until the finale to do the plot. It’s far too big of a storyline to be crammed with what’s supposed to be focused on wrapping up the Coopers’ Medford story and transitioning Sheldon’s life to California. George’s death could also dampen the send-off’s overall mood, which makes it difficult to leave the series on a feel-good note.
