Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode Count Officially Confirmed (& It’s The Shortest Season Yet)

Young Sheldon season 7’s official episode count has been revealed. The era of The Big Bang Theory universe on CBS is coming to a close when the Coopers bid goodbye in May 2024. Making this news all the more disappointing is that Young Sheldon has to end with a much shorter year, considering that it will be premiering in the midseason instead of its usual fall return.

Contrary to previous reports that claim that the show will end with 15 episodes, Young Sheldon season 7 is now confirmed to have 14 episodes, meaning it will be its shortest year. Missy actor, Raegan Revord’s post on social media reveals this as part of her lengthy response to news that the popular The Big Bang Theory prequel is wrapping up. On her Instagram, she wrote: “…Filming these last 14 episodes will be so hard, but I am excited to get to opportunity to share this story with the fans and our Young Sheldon family…” Check out her full post below:

Can Young Sheldon Deliver A Satisfying Finale With Just 14 Episodes?

Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode Count Officially Confirmed (& It’s The Shortest Season Yet)

Due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the 2023-2024 TV season has been delayed to early 2024. While that shouldn’t be that big of a deal, it has become an issue for shows like The Big Bang Theory spin-off, which is approaching the end of its run. Young Sheldon season 7 is now slated to premiere on February 15, with 14 episodes left until its series finale in May. While that number is more than what other returning shows are getting, it’s still far fewer compared to its usual output of 22 episodes.

The question now is whether Young Sheldon can deliver a satisfying send-off with just 14 episodes. The Young Sheldon season 6 finale left the Coopers on the precipice of change, with several plot lines needing resolution. Aside from Sheldon’s personal story, there’s also Mandy and Georgie’s romance, which is arguably the best original narrative in the prequel. There’s also Missy’s supposed redemption following her behavior in season 6. Finally, George and Mary’s marriage needs to have a definitive ending, especially as his death approaches.

Admittedly, Young Sheldon‘s situation is not ideal. Several of these plots need to be further explored for a fulfilling pay-off. That being said, it isn’t impossible to deliver a great series finale if they are mindful of which storylines need to be prioritized. In the end, it’s all about the execution of these storylines that will spell the difference between a lackluster and satisfying send-off for the Coopers.
