The latest teaser for Young Sheldon season 5 reveals Mary (Zoe Perry) being tempted to cheat on George (Lance Barber). Much has been said about the Cooper patriarch’s infidelity, which was first revealed in The Big Bang Theory. In the original series, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) often referenced his parents’ past struggles and his father’s history of cheating.
The Big Bang Theory spin-off is currently in season 5, and with the show confirmed to run until season 7, George’s cheating scandal is inevitably going to be tackled. Young Sheldon has actually started setting it up by showing George getting flirtatious with the family’s newly-single neighbor, Brenda (Melissa Peterman). While viewers have been invested in this particular plotline, CBS shocked fans by also suggesting that Mary could also be embroiled in her own affair, perhaps even before her husband becomes fully unfaithful.
TV Promos has released a string of teasers for Young Sheldon season 5, episode 11, titled “A Lock-In, a Weather Girl and a Disgusting Habit,” revealing the return of Youth Pastor Rob (Dan Byrd). This effectively reignites Mary’s attraction to him, which was established previously in the same season. Now, the pair needs to work closely as they organize a sleepover at the church, making it more difficult for the Cooper matriarch to hide her growing crush on her co-worker. Elsewhere in the upcoming Young Sheldon season 5, episode 11, Georgie (Montana Jordan) also gets his love life going when he meets a girl while manning his and Meemaw’s (Annie Potts) laundry shop/secret gambling den. This is the first time Cooper’s eldest kid expresses interest in dating again since Jana (Ava Allan) broke up with him for dropping out of school. Georgie has been busy establishing himself as an independent adult as he moved out of the house into the garage and started paying rent. After that, he focused on getting his grandmother’s business up and running. Now that he’s in a more stable place, Georgie can begin seeing girls again. And since the elder George and Mary are busy with their own lives, chances are that they wouldn’t have any problem with this.
Whether or not Mary acts on her attraction to Youth Pastor Rob is currently unknown. As seen in the Young Sheldon season 5 promo clip, she’s working really hard to distance herself from him. However, this is proving to be a difficult feat, given the pair are working so closely together. Rob doesn’t seem to notice Mary’s awkwardness, however, so it’s difficult to say if he harbors a crush on her, too. But aside from this potentially resulting in Mary having an affair of her own, the fact that Missy (Raegan Revord) also likes Youth Pastor Rob will no doubt make the whole situation even trickier.
