Young Sheldon Fixes A Big Bang Theory Plot Hole About George’s Affair

Young Sheldon Fixes A Big Bang Theory Plot Hole About George’s Affair

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Young Sheldon season 6, episode 14.

CBS just solved a The Big Bang Theory plot hole about Sheldon’s story about George’s cheating scandal in Young Sheldon season 6, episode 14. The socially-inept genius had a penchant for sharing childhood stories in The Big Bang Theory. Some of them were fun anecdotes that described a good life in Texas with his family, while others were sad that revealed some of his struggles living in a small town where he barely had any friends. His most famous memory, however, turns out to be the most heartbreaking as well, when he shared how he caught his dad in the act with another woman other than his mother.

In “Hot Tub Contamination,” the socially-inept genius confessed to Penny that the reason he started knocking thrice was because he once walked in on his dad cheating on his mom. Not confronting George about it became Sheldon’s saddest The Big Bang Theory regret, since they were never able to properly talk about what happened until his dad’s death. Since this was established, the plot line has been eagerly anticipated in Young Sheldon, although some specifics in Sheldon’s story raise questions about what really happened during the incident.

Young Sheldon Reveals How Sheldon Could Have Walked In On His Dad Cheating

Before the chaos ensues in “A Launch Party and a Whole Human Being,” Sheldon is nothing but fixated on the launch of his grant database project — something that he really worked hard for this year. He is distracted by a call from Mandy asking for help as she goes into labor in Young Sheldon season 6 which worsens an existing Georgie The Big Bang Theory plot hole. At this point, the boy genius is the only one at home on a random weekday. This resolves the logistical issue of him walking in on his dad cheating when either George or Mary would be driving him around town in Young Sheldon.

It’s unclear why Sheldon is just sitting at the Coopers’ place when it’s a school day and his grant database project is about to be launched. It’s possible that he is now commuting on his own or someone else gives him a ride occasionally. Regardless, this makes his story about George cheating in The Big Bang Theory possible because he now comes home without anyone from the family knowing or even noticing. If he is still relying on his dad and mom (or even Meemaw), George would have definitely known if his son is back home from school.

Despite Young Sheldon season 6’s recent timeline issue, George’s cheating scandal is definitely coming soon. The massive blow-up between Mary and her husband at the hospital is likely building toward the Cooper patriarch’s affair. At the very least, however, it isn’t going down this year. Young Sheldon executive producer Steve Holland has confirmed that Sheldon’s traumatic experience of walking in on his dad with another woman isn’t in the cards for season 6. Since The Big Bang Theory prequel is already guaranteed for season 7, however, it gives the show plenty of time to finally tackle it.

Young Sheldon season 6 airs Thursdays on CBS.
