Young Guns Celebrates 35th Anniversary With First-Ever 4K Release [EXCLUSIVE TRAILER]

Lionsgate is revisiting the iconic 1988 Western Young Guns for the movie’s 35th anniversary. Directed by Christopher Cain and written by

John Fusco, the story follows Billy the Kid’s adventures during the Lincoln County War in the 1870s. The legend began when British ranch owner John Tunstall hired six boys to protect his ranch against the Santa Fe Ring, only to be killed in an ambush that caused leader Billy to declare war and get his crew branded some of the nation’s most notorious outlaws. The wild Western landscapes can now be appreciated all the more effectively thanks to the upcoming 4K release, which includes a brand-new transfer featuring Dolby Vision HDR.

Dubbed the “Brat Pack Western” by critics of the day, Young Guns stars several ’80s heartthrobs, with Emilio Estevez playing Billy the Kid and Kiefer Sutherland joining him as Doc Scurlock. Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney, and Casey Siemaszko all made up part of the ensemble — ensuring the mass appeal of the project and helping it achieve a long-lasting legacy. The film’s success garnered a sequel in 1990, known as Young Guns II, and Estevez confirmed in 2021 that a third Young Guns movie was on its way.
