You: The 5 Most (& 5 Least) Believable Character Deaths

You: The 5 Most (& 5 Least) Believable Character Deaths

From the moment fans meet Joe Goldberg on You, it’s clear that he’s a terrible person and anyone who dates him is in a lot of trouble. He takes stalking to another level and becomes obsessed with anyone he becomes romantically involved with — and he doesn’t mind getting rid of anyone who gets in his way.

With shocking scenes that fans could never have guessed and detailed characterization, You is a unique show. When it comes to the people who have died in the first two seasons, some make sense and seemed inevitable, whereas other character deaths didn’t seem logical at all.

Most Believable: Beck

You: The 5 Most (& 5 Least) Believable Character Deaths

Beck dies while trapped in Joe’s cage and this sadly seems like the only way that her tale could have ended.

From the minute Beck met Joe, viewers wanted to scream at her to run far away, as it seemed like she wouldn’t get out of the relationship alive. Beck’s death is one of the most believable on the show as she is Joe’s first love interest and a tragic figure whose life spirals out of control until her murder at a young age.

Least Believable: Peach

Peach opens the door at her birthday party in YOU

Peach is a mean-spirited character whose friendship with Beck is more toxic than it appears at first. She’s secretly in love with Beck and hates Joe because he gets to date her.

Joe kills Peach in the first season and pretends that she killed herself. This is one of the least logical deaths on You, as before her death, Peach knew that Joe was up to no good and she was spying on him. It seems like Peach is intelligent and cunning enough to be the one in control, and many fans would likely agree that Peach could beat Joe at his own game. She appeared to be just moments away from framing, manipulating, or even murdering Joe herself.

Most Believable: Benji

benji on you

Joe kills Benji by having him drink coffee with peanut oil in the first season. He knows that Benji is allergic, and this is a quick way to go about it.

Benji’s death makes sense as it’s clear that he isn’t long for this world from the moment that Joe learns that he has been treating Beck badly. Joe likes ridding himself of obstacles and in some cases, that means committing murder. He is a complex figure and sometimes kills people who are horrible, and Benji fits into the category of someone who didn’t do much good when he was alive.

Least Believable: Ron

ron on you

There are some sad deaths on You, though it’s not very tragic to watch Joe punish and kill Ron for abusing Paco’s mother.

Even so, it wasn’t that logical that Joe would be able to get revenge on Ron and end his life. It was poetic justice, but it didn’t seem like something that would actually take place. Instead, it seemed more likely that Ron would seriously and severely beat Joe up and that would be the end of that. Ron was an abuser and a terrifying person, and Joe should have been no match for him.

Most Believable: Elijah

eliljah and candace on you

Flashbacks can be corny but they’re used well on You. Fans see through a flashback that Joe killed Elijah because he was jealous of his romance with Candace.

This was a totally believable death, as Joe pushed Elijah off the roof of an NYC building. Once fans learned that Joe knew about Elijah and Candace, it seemed obvious that he would end Elijah’s life. This was also a plausible way to kill him as it didn’t involve a fancy scheme or advance planning. The fact that Joe acted on instinct proves how dangerous and scary he is.

Least Believable: Jasper

jasper on you

Joe kills Jasper and the aftermath is so gruesome that it might be his most graphic murder on the show. It’s one of the least believable, though.

Joe is in way too deep when he steals Will’s identity and learns that Will owes Jasper some money. Jasper actually cuts off Joe’s finger because of this debt. It doesn’t seem plausible that Joe would be able to murder Jasper when Jasper is such a tough and terrifying guy who doesn’t suffer fools or let people get away with not paying what they owe.

Most Believable: Candace

candace on you

Love is the one who kills Candace, and it’s unclear whether this is something that Joe would have done.

Either way, it’s one of the most believable and logical deaths on You. In the first season, fans wondered if Joe had killed Candace as she had disappeared and no one knew what had happened to her. Once it became clear that she was still alive, it seemed like only a matter of time before that changed. It was surprising that Love ended Candace’s story as it seemed like Joe was going to repeat history and kill her like he had Beck. While Candace escaped the horrible glass cage, she couldn’t run from the evil Love.

Least Believable: Forty

Love with Forty on You

A police officer is the one who shoots and kills Forty, and it’s an unexpected and wild moment in a season full of them.

It’s not very believable that Forty would die this way. While Love is obsessed with her brother and seems to love him in a strange way, it did seem like if Forty was going to die, maybe Love would have killed him so he didn’t get in the way of her love story with Joe. Love is scarier than Beck, as while Beck would never hurt anyone, Love schemes just as much as Joe does.

Most Believable: Delilah

Delilah looking serious in YOU

Joe is taken with Delilah and her little sister Ellie from the moment he moves into their L.A. apartment building. It doesn’t seem like would kill them, as he empathizes with Ellie’s family situation the way that he did with Paco when he lived in NYC.

While Joe doesn’t murder Delilah, Love does, and this makes perfect sense. Love hates obstacles as much as Joe does and she knows that Delilah is intelligent and has figured some things out. Love is playing a game and can’t imagine it not working out the way that she planned.

Least Believable: Henderson

Henderson during a stand-up show in YOU

Joe learns that Henderson is a total creep and has been assaulting girls for a long time. He finds the secret lair in his house and kidnaps Henderson.

While Henderson is a horrible person and no fan of the show wants to see him alive, this scene is pretty melodramatic and over-the-top. Joe wears a mask and then takes it off before murdering Henderson and pretending that he killed himself. Since this is how he approached Peach’s death, it falls flat and doesn’t have as much impact. This is definitely the least believable death on You.
