You Desperately Need To Save Up For One Character Type In Honkai: Star Rail

Players should start thinking about saving their Stellar Jade in Honkai: Star Rail for one specific type of character in the game. The turn-based game by HoYoverse, the same creators of Genshin Impact, follows the format of traditional RPGs, assigning roles to characters and giving them unique abilities to be used in combat. These roles are identified by the Paths that each character follows. The Path of the Destruction, for instance, is composed of characters who specialize in dealing as much damage as possible, even if it costs them a portion of their HP – or that of their teammates.

Alternatively, those on the Path of the Preservation are good at keeping their party safe by mitigating damage through shields for the party or simply reducing the damage intake by spreading it among teammates at a reduced rate. Being able to carefully build a team in Honkai: Star Rail relies heavily on spreading out team members with different abilities and, of course, elements, so as to inflict Weakness Break on opponents and get the upper hand when striking them with attacks. There is, however, one type of character that is overlooked and should not be, as they are game changers.

Healers In Honkai: Star Rail Deserve More Attention

Honkai Star Rail's Huohuo looks possessed.

Characters who follow the Path of the Abundance, otherwise known as healers, deserve more attention from players in the game. There are fewer healers in comparison to the number of DPS units and nearly half of them operate somewhat poorly on the field. Players should definitely consider saving their resources and pulling for a premium 5-star healer whenever they get the chance. A character like that can significantly improve their team comps, change how they experience the game, and allow them to take on high-level challenges, such as certain grade 6 Echo of War boss fights in Honkai: Star Rail.

4-Star Healers & Bailu Are Suboptimal In Honkai: Star Rail

The big issue with healers in the popular F2P (free-to-play) RPG is that the 4-star ones and even Bailu are not sufficiently strong. The first F2P healer that players obtain, Natasha, does her job on the field by keeping teammates alive and even restoring Energy for continuous heals, but she lacks depth. The biggest problem with Natasha is that, while she restores HP, she is simply unable to dispel debuffs. At higher levels, debuffs from enemies become quite common and are not exclusive to boss fights like Phantylia in Honkai: Star Rail, rendering Natasha somewhat useless in most team comps.

The doctor from Belobog shares the same problem with Bailu. The young Vidyadhara is the first 5-star Abundance character and she is excellent at restoring HP in large quantities. Combining the sheer power of her healing with the ability to revive one fallen teammate per battle, Bailu can be considered truly impressive. Nevertheless, she is also unable to dispel debuffs. Her healing alone may keep the party alive through tough fights, but she will not help the party perform better in Honkai: Star Rail. Essentially, Bailu is stuck with the task of restoring HP for party members and nothing more.

Lynx, another 4-star character who follows the Path of the Abundance, also has some performance issues. While she is capable of dispelling debuffs with her Ultimate, which is a notable perk, she lacks the raw healing power of a 5-star healer’s scaling. Lynx has a great gameplay mechanic that increases the chance for her Destruction or Preservation allies to be targeted by opponents and grants them continuous healing, but her build has to be air-tight for her to operate effectively in fights against multiple opponents or a heavy hitter. In contrast, there are two Honkai: Star Rail healers that shine.

Honkai: Star Rail – Luocha Character Builds (Best Light Cones, Relics, Traces)

Luocha is a unique healer in Honkai: Star Rail. His healing scales off ATK and his Talent allows for continuous and effective healing across the team.

Luocha and Huohuo are two 5-star premium characters who follow the Path of the Abundance and can only be obtained through limited-time banners. Luocha is a fantastic unit that can trigger an auto-healing mechanism through his Talent’s field that allows players to restore HP by attacking opponents. This mysterious character also has a safety measure that allows him to restore health for allies whose HP drops below 50%. Luocha’s Ultimate also removes buffs from enemies and his Skill can remove debuffs from allies, making him a fully-fledged healer with much-needed supporting capabilities in Honkai: Star Rail.

Huohuo also leans into the role of a healer with supporting capabilities. The character restores a lot of HP for multiple allies and dispels debuffs. The most notable aspect of her kit, however, is that on top of her healing, Huohuo also restores Energy for her teammates, grants them an ATK buff, and boasts an auto-healing mechanism. Like Luocha, Huohuo is a perfect mix between a complete healer and a support unit. Both are drastically better than any 4-star healer and Bailu, even if Bailu matches their raw healing power and can revive an ally in Honkai: Star Rail.

DPS Units Are Flashier Than Healers In Honkai: Star Rail

Jingliu from Honkai Star Rail looks serious while dripping liquid from a glass.

Healers, however, tend to get less attention than other character types in the game. Those that occupy the DPS role tend to have flashier abilities and, when landing hits that deal thousands of points in damage, they tend to bring the spotlight onto themselves. Characters like Blade and Jingliu are truly impressive, as they are very good at draining bosses’ HP bars and wiping out mobs. That is rendered useless, however, if they get debuffed and players are unable to control them in Honkai: Star Rail, or if they fall in battle due to the lack of proper healing.

Honkai: Star Rail features plenty of characters. While element and path are important for combat, heights and ages can be fun details to know.

In most team comps for new releases, Huohuo and Luocha are the suggested healer because they are the best in their category. In fact, they often perform their job a lot better than many DPS units when dealing damage. These characters are key to a healthy team comp and should not be overlooked. Players who are considering pulling for the next big 5-star DPS should instead think about saving their Stellar Jade, as a strong healer like these two can allow their current DPS to operate more comfortably, thus providing a more satisfactory experience with Honkai: Star Rail.
