TikTok popularity has been steadily growing in the past couple of years, and now, the video-focused social networking service is giving more attention to its web app, starting by allowing the users to edit profile info on the desktop. Unfortunately, TikTok doesn’t have a native app for Windows or Mac at the moment. However, users can always access the platform by visiting the website through the browser, like Facebook and Instagram.
TikTok has been testing and releasing several new features in the past few weeks, including and not limited to the TikTok’s watch history feature, which allows the users to find the recently watched videos— aka TikToks— in case they forgot to like or add them to favorites. The company is also testing a dislike button for comments. This is to help fight against spam. TikTok also recently added a picture-in-picture player and background audio player to its app. This enables users to watch or listen to audio from a video outside the app.
While users can utilize many features on the phone app, there is less that they can do on the desktop. It’s mostly limited to uploading a video to their account, without the cool features. It’s now possible for TikTok users to edit most of their profile information through the desktop version. A Twitter user discovered this new feature and pointed it out to Matt Navarra, who’s popular for sharing social networks apps updates and leaks.
Editing TikTok Profile On The Desktop
TikTok users will start to see a new pop-up message when visiting TikTok.com, and this message will inform users of the latest update. After receiving the update, TikTok users will be able to edit most of their profile info, including the username, name, bio and profile photo. However, desktop users will not be able to edit their category or their YouTube and Instagram social links yet. Users can edit their profile on the desktop by clicking on the profile photo in the top-right corner and then clicking on ‘View Profile‘ to see the new ‘Edit Profile‘ button.
TikTok is an essential app for a vast number of users, and it was one of the most popular apps of the year 2021. That’s why the ByetDance-owned company is actively adding new features. However, the company doesn’t give much care to the desktop version, and while Windows 10 and Windows 11 can download the TikTok app from Microsoft Store, it’s still a browser-based app that installs TikTok.com as an app. Maybe this newly-introduced feature is just the beginning, and TikTok will provide desktop users with a set of new features or a revamped user experience. On the other hand, most TikTok users use Android or iOS mobiles and tablets.
