“You Are THE Resource”: Amanda Waller Officially Names Suicide Squad’s Best Member

Warning: Spoilers for Titans: Beast World – Waller Rising #1!As far as Amanda Waller is concerned, the best member of the Suicide Squad is the newest recruit to Task Force X: Deadeye. Archie Waller is the nephew of Amanda Waller and a reluctant member of the Suicide Squad introduced during the Lazarus Planet event. In his brief time with DC so far, the psychic assassin has made it clear he’s not the biggest fan of his aunt, but is compelled to work for her regardless.

Amanda Waller makes it clear why she finds Deadeye to be such a valuable asset to her in Titans: Beast World – Waller Rising #1 by Chuck Brown and Keron Grant. Grant’s cover art, as well as a preview for the panels that will be included in the issue, can be found below. Titans: Beast World – Waller Rising #1 is currently set to release on December 5.

An impromptu emergency call to her nephew forces Amanda Waller to illustrate just how important she views him to be. Among all of her endless resources, she views Archie as the resource at her disposal.

Amanda Waller Already Views Deadeye as the Core of Suicide Squad

“You Are THE Resource”: Amanda Waller Officially Names Suicide Squad’s Best Member

The “Beast World” event will see a bevy of people around the world reaching their newfound animal forms, courtesy of Beast Boy’s new Garro state. None of this would have happened had Doctor Hate not wiped Beast Boy’s memory at an inopportune time on direct orders from Amanda Waller. This one-shot offers direct fallout from the beginning of the event as seen in Titans: Beast World #1. The one-shot sees Deadeye trying to save someone’s life in his civilian job as a medical professional when he gets an intercom call from his aunt.

Understandably, he’s furious that not only has Waller picked the worst time to interrupt him, but she’s also picked the worst time to ask for his immediate assistance in tracking down a rogue Doctor Hate who has stolen a Phantom Zone Projector. Amanda urges that millions of people will die if he doesn’t help her right this instant in what she calls a “Beast Boy adjacent” problem. When Archie asks why she doesn’t call on another one of her many resources, she responds, “Because you are the resource.” She adds that even though she knows that he doesn’t trust her, he’s the only one who she trusts to get the job done. Deadeye then begrudgingly leaves the ambulance to chase after Doctor Hate.

Why is Deadeye So Vital to the Suicide Squad?

Amanda Waller

With this being Archie’s second comic appearance in the DC Universe (following the Lazarus Planet: Next Evolution one-shot), there is still much to be revealed about the nature of their relationship, such as why Archie continues to work for Amanda despite not liking or trusting her. It could just speak to his morals as a character devoting his blind loyalty to his family, but what’s most important for the time being is that Amanda trusts Archie to put her on a pedestal higher than any other member of the Suicide Squad. It could be because of his skills or because he’s a family member worth depending on, but time will tell how Amanda Waller‘s nephew earns such a major accolade from the Suicide Squad leader.
