Yellowstone Creator’s New TV Show Gets Major Filming Update

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming show Landman gets an exciting filming update. Sheridan, the popular actor and TV mogul, is known for several projects, including the critically acclaimed movie Hell or High Water. Following his success with the neo-western series Yellowstone, the filmmaker struck an ongoing deal with ViacomCBS that has spawned a number of Yellowstone spinoffs and standalone shows. Up next is Landman, which Sheridan co-created with Christian Wallace.

Now, Paramount+ has confirmed that production of Sheridan’s Landman has commenced around Fort Worth, Texas. The streamer also shared a photo of a filming slate. It doesn’t reveal too much about the show, but it does confirm that Sheridan will direct Landman‘s first episode.

Landman is based on the podcast Boomtown, which covers Texas’ multi-billion dollar oil industry in the modern-day. As of the time of writing, there aren’t many concrete story or plot details known about Landman. However, according to the show’s official description, it will tell the story of the “roughnecks and wildcat billionaires” who are greatly impacting our climate, economy, and geopolitics.

Billy Bob Thornton, the veteran Academy Award-winning actor, who previously worked with Sheridan on the Yellowstone prequel 1883, is set to feature in this highly anticipated series as the lead character. Thornton has been cast as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for an oil company. Along with Thornton, other confirmed cast members in the series include Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, and Jacob Lofland.

Taylor Sheridan has multiple popular television series in addition to Yellowstone, making him one of the most prolific screenwriters in Hollywood.

There has been no official release date set for the show, but because filming has only just begun, Landman will most likely not premiere until the end of the year or early 2025. Considering Sheridan’s history of success with similarly sprawling stories, as well as Landman‘s impressive cast, the new show should be worth the wait.
