Yellowjackets Season 2 Is Casting More Older Versions Of Survivors

Yellowjackets season 2 is reportedly casting older versions of more survivors, including Van. Season 1 of the series, which was created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, premiered on Showtime on November 14, 2021. By the time the season 1 finale aired on January 16, 2022, the Internet was buzzing about the mysterious and exhilarating new project. The series was renewed for season 2 in December 2021 while season 1 was still airing.

Yellowjackets is a series that takes place in two different timelines, one in 1996 and one in 2021. The 1996 timeline follows the nineteen-month period where a New Jersey soccer team was lost after their plane crashed in the Canadian woods. The 2021 timeline alternates with their harrowing tale of survival, picking up the stories of certain key members of the cast who are revealed to have survived the ordeal. The adult cast of Yellowjackets, as well as their young counterparts, includes Melanie Lynskey and Sophie Nélisse as Shauna, Tawny Cypress and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Taissa, Juliette Lewis and Sophie Thatcher as Natalie, Christina Ricci and Sammi Hanratty as Misty, and Warren Kole and Jack Depew as Jeff.

While speaking with ET, Lynskey revealed a little bit about the casting process for Yellowjackets season 2. She says the producers are currently seeking “older versions of a couple of the younger cast,” and she believes that they are for sure casting an older version of the character Van, played by Liv Hewson, who is the goalie for the team and whose fate is currently still unknown in the 1996 timeline. Lynskey says she would like Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne to take the role, though she knows the actress is too busy for it. Read her full quote below:

I know new people are coming in. Older versions of a couple of the younger cast they’re trying to cast right now.

[I think] they’re gonna cast an older Van. [I would like her to be played by] Natasha Lyonne. She’s a friend of mine and I’m obsessed with her, but she’s too busy. [I’m] just sort of, like, dream casting it.”

Yellowjackets Season 2 Is Casting More Older Versions Of Survivors

Because season 1 didn’t conclude the 1996 timeline, not only can the young actors playing surviving characters return, but the show can begin to reveal more about who survived their experience in the wilderness. Quite a few characters still have the chance to make it out alive, though not necessarily in one piece. This includes Kevin Alves as Travis, Courtney Eaton as Lottie, Keeya King as Akilah, Alexa Barajas as Mari, Luciano Leroux as Javi, and Steven Krueger as Ben Scott, the assistant coach of the team.

It will be interesting to see when Yellowjackets announces who has been cast in the series. Even if the cast listing doesn’t reveal what characters the adult actors are playing, it will likely be easy to match them to their teen counterparts based on who they look most similar to. If the series wants to preserve the surprise, fans might not get the chance to know who these new cast members are until the show actually airs.
