X Ways Din Djarin’s Armor Has Changed Since His Mandalorian Debut

X Ways Din Djarin’s Armor Has Changed Since His Mandalorian Debut

Din Djarin’s armor has gone through several subtle changes since its first appearance in The Mandalorian. As Pedro Pascal’s chromed character adventures throughout the galaxy far, far away with Grogu at his side, he inevitably finds himself upgrading his armor to meet each new challenge he faces. Compared to the brightly-colored appearance of other Mandalorians—such as Boba Fett or Sabine Wren—Din Djarin’s armor looked somewhat bland in the beginning of the series. But now, his shiny and minimalistic look has become an icon for both The Mandalorian and Star Wars as a whole. Much like his attitude, his armor is simple but effective.

Sabine Wren once told Ezra Bridger that “the battles, the history, the blood,” all live within her Mandalorian armor, and this is certainly the case for Din Djarin. Each time he adds or replaces a piece of his armor in The Mandalorian, it represents a milestone in his character’s journey, and speaks to his relationships to other characters in The Mandalorian. It’s as if his armor were a rich tapestry that he’s slowly been weaving; Din quite literally wears his own history on his shoulders. And just like his new adopted father, Grogu’s Mandalorian armor has also begun to take shape and evolve.

15 Best Din Djarin Quotes In The Mandalorian

Between hilariously-delivered dry humor to some of Star Wars’ most articulate lines, here are Din Djarin’s 15 best quotes in The Mandalorian thus far.

1 The First Silver Pauldron

The Mandalorian season 1, episode 1 “The Mandalorian”

Din Djarin asks the Client about Grogu's chain code in The Mandalorian season 1 episode 1

The very first episode of The Mandalorian begins with Din Djarin getting a brand new silver pauldron. After taking the job to hunt Grogu down for the Client (Werner Herzog), Din is given a small brick of beskar as a down payment for his services. He immediately offers the brick to the Armorer, who decides to use it to craft Din a new pauldron. Much like the unassuming small brick of beskar, Din had no idea how much his mission to retrieve Grogu would change his life, and his first silver pauldron serves to remind him that.

2 Trading Red Alloy For Pure Silver Beskar

The Mandalorian season 1, episode 3 “The Sin”

Mandalorians don’t often fully replace their armor, as it requires an enormous amount of beskar to pull off. Additionally, replacing a full set of armor usually meant erasing centuries of Mandalorian history. Yet Din Djarin’s successful retrieval of Grogu earned him a full camtono of beskar that’d been stolen by the Empire in the Great Purge. And because his previous armor was so bland, the Armorer believes a new cuirass is in order for him. Unlike the pauldron—which was the Armorer’s idea—Din specifically requests new armor upon delivering the camtono, seeing that his red alloy had “lost its integrity” in his fight with the mudhorn.

3 The Whistling Birds On A Gauntlet

The Mandalorian season 1, episode 3 “The Sin”

Whistling birds in Book of Boba Fett

Din’s camtono of beskar was more than enough to forge him a full new set of Mandalorian armor, leaving plenty leftover for the Armorer to use. Of course, Din requests that some of it be reserved for the foundlings. Meanwhile, the Armorer wishes to craft Din’s mudhorn signet with some of the extra beskar, but he refuses because Grogu helped him take the beast down. Instead, the Armorer crafts whistling birds for Din’s gauntlet. These small beskar rockets were perfect for quickly taking out large groups of enemies, and they proved vital when rescued Grogu from the Client’s stormtroopers.

4 The Mudhorn Signet

The Mandalorian season 1, episode 8 “Redemption”

In The Mandalorian season 1 finale, Din meets up with the Armorer once more as they discuss the decimation of their covert. She believes it is his duty to return Grogu to the Jedi, and to this end, she reveals Din and Grogu’s signet to be the mudhorn. Notably, the Armorer installs his signet on the same silver pauldron that began his quest with Grogu, likely signifying the next chapter in his journey with Grogu. Of course, Grogu would later be gifted a rondel with a matching mudhorn signet in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4.

5 The Jetpack Replaces The Pulse Rifle’s Silhouette

The Mandalorian season 1, episode 8 “Redemption”

The Armorer gives Din Djarin his jetpack in The Mandalorian

In addition to earning his signet, the Armorer also gifts Din with his very own jetpack, which he often uses throughout the rest of the series. While his back used to be reserved for his Amban phase-pulse rifle, it now holds the beskar-plated jetpack. Nevertheless, he’s free to switch out the jetpack for his pulse rifle if he chooses. During his mission to find Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian season 2, episode 5, he opted to bring his rifle rather than his jetpack. However, his rifle was destroyed along with the Razorcrest by a blast from Moff Gideon’s light cruiser.

6 Zero’s Parts Become New Armor

The Mandalorian season 2, episode 1 “The Marshal”

Q9-0 from The Mandalorian

One of Din Djarin’s more interesting armor changes occurs off-screen in-between season 1 and season 2. At some point in his battle with Moff Gideon’s army, Din loses the beskar cuisse on his right thigh. Rather than go to the Armorer for a replacement, Din uses a piece of Zero, the bounty hunting droid from The Mandalorian season 1, episode 6. Originally, the droid tried to find and harm Grogu while on board the Razorcrest during a mission, but was destroyed and kept for parts by Din. By using parts from Zero, it’s as if Din is telling others to not mess with Grogu, or else they risk becoming another piece of his armor.

7 Losing The Whistling Birds & Other Weapons

The Mandalorian season 3, episode 7 “The Spies”

Din Djarin captured in The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 7.

Short of losing all his armor, Din Djarin is captured and disarmed by Moff Gideon in the penultimate episode of The Mandalorian season 3. This causes him to salvage a jetpack from one of Gideon’s downed troopers. Later, he’s forced to fight a group of Gideon’s troopers with nothing but his bare hands. But his expertise as a fighter allows him to sequentially take equipment from each of them. This scene shows that—despite losing his whistling birds and his other weapons—Din Djarin is more than capable of taking out enemies while unarmed.

8 Needing Two New Holsters For Season 4

The Mandalorian season 3, episode 8 “The Return”

Din Djarin new pistols The Mandalorian season 4

After assisting Bo-Katan Kryze in reclaiming Mandalore, Din Djarin visits Greef Karga on Nevarro to get a home for him and Grogu to settle down. While meeting with Karga, Din Djarin sports two brand-new pistols sticking out of his belt, desperately in need of some proper holders. Nevertheless, this suggests Din may become yet another dual-wielding Mandalorian in The Mandalorian season 4, similar to Jango Fett before him.

While Din Djarin’s armor has gone through a lot of changes throughout the series, its worth noting that his helmet has almost remained unchanged since The Mandalorian season 1, leaving the door open for more modifications in the future. But in any case, each piece of armor tells a part of his story. From the first silver pauldron he got for taking the Grogu job to his fancy new pistols. Both he and Grogu wear their history proudly, so it will be interesting to see how their armor evolves in The Mandalorian season 4 and beyond.

    Summary:
The Mandalorian is set after the Empire’s fall and before the First Order’s emergence in the ever-growing Star Wars universe. The series follows the travails of a lone gunfighter named Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic. Acting as the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian has become incredibly popular on Disney+, partly due to Mando’s relationship with Grogu, which the internet dubbed “Baby Yoda” upon his introduction in season 1.
