WEDDING EXTRAVAGANZA! Mystique and Destiny are one of the most beloved — and longest-running — gay couples in history. Somewhere in their 100+ years together, the pair married, but we’ve never seen the event on the page. This year MARVEL’S VOICES: PRIDE makes history with Marvel’s first woman-to-woman wedding in a story by superstar X-Men scribe Kieron Gillen! And with a couple as complex as these two, you know there’s a lot more to the story. We promise party crashing! Villainy! Romance!

The Krakoan era is rapidly winding down for the X-Men, but that won’t stop them from going out in style with a stunning wedding. The Pride issue promises Mystique and Destiny as they’ve never been seen before, as teased in new preview pages recently shared by Marvel.

Mystique and Destiny Celebrate Their Love With a Breathtaking Wedding

The Ceremony Commemorates Their Journey

It’s been a hundred years since Raven Darkholme and Irene Adler met. In that time, they’ve fallen in love, shared two children (the X-Men Nightcrawler and Rogue), and had a profound effect on mutantkind as a whole. Few have undertaken such a tumultuous journey, but the two of them have spent decades weaving through the criminal underground to the top of the mutant political food chain, and they’ve done much of it together. Even Destiny’s death was only a temporary halt, and her resurrection was Mystique’s priority in Krakoa. It is only fitting that they renew their vows there, too.

To be a mutant often means to be at war or fighting for survival. Krakoa offered a brief reprieve, and though it was little more than a temporary pause in the grand scheme of mutant history, it still offered several opportunities to live and celebrate as never before. Of course, Destiny and Mystique seized some of that for themselves, and their journey together is worthy of commemoration. They’ve gone from Brotherhood villains to members of the Quiet Council. They’ve taken lives and saved them. Nothing is black and white, including their love for each other.

This Grand Wedding Brings the X-Men Together

The Wedding Special Is a Needed Reminder of Mutant Life Outside of War

While Mystique and Destiny are the stars of their own show, their wedding promises to bring in several other familiar faces. Rogue, the daughter they raised together, has a pivotal role in their ceremony, and Emma Frost, Wolverine, Betsy Braddock, and Rachel Summers are all set to make appearances that highlight the bonds they share. Orchis may have set the destruction of Krakoa in motion and ushered in the next chapter for the X-Men, but Mystique and Destiny’s wedding offers a chance to remember the good life and show just how proud they are of their love and history together.

X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 is available May 29th, 2024 from Marvel Comics.
