Marvel Comics recently teased the mysterious upcoming Fall of X event – the X-Men’s 3rd crossover event of 2023 after Dark Web and Sins of Sinister – and it was just revealed that the tumultuous event will be a major status-quo changing war for the mutants of Krakoa.
Ever since Krakoa’s founding in Jonathan Hickman’s 2019 soft reboot of the X-Men franchise House of X/Powers of X, the state of mutantkind has been in constant peril and danger, even while a majority of mutants live in “paradise” on the living island of Krakoa. Fall of X is shaping up to be the biggest event for Krakoa’s X-Men since 2021’s Inferno, which saw the secret mutant Moira McTaggart revealed as a horrific traitor to mutantkind, defecting to the anti-mutant organization called Orchis and beginning the first stages of the major mutant war that will ocurr in Fall of X.

Marvel’s original press release for Fall of X revealed very little about the upcoming event, simply stating, “The X-Men hoped Krakoa would last forever. Time to find out if they were right,” and ominous hint of what is to come in the Summer of 2023. Many fans have hopes that the Fall of X was perhaps referring to Charles Xavier finally facing justice for his increasingly rancid attitude towards himself as “leader of Krakoa,” viewing himself as an infallible god-like being, when in reality he is manipulative, untrustworthy, selfish, and a truly terrible father. However, it seems like Fall of X is going to threaten more than just the founder of the X-Men, as a recent Marvel press release about an upcoming Iron Man event is titled, “‘Invincible Iron Man’ Marks a Pivotal Moment for Mutantkind’s Upcoming War,” officially confirming that the Fall of X will be a war for the future of Krakoa. There have been many theories about a war brewing for the mutants of Krakoa, between Charles and his son Legion, between the various Summers brothers, between Abigail Brand and… everyone, but the Iron Man article clearly elucidates that it will be “Orchis’ vicious war against mutants” that occurs in Fall of X.
Moira X And Orchis Will Destroy Krakoa At Any Cost
Orchis’ war with the mutants has been brewing since House of X/Powers of X, and in some ways the war started almost 4 years ago, when Orchis decided to bring the Nimrod Sentinel online, a harbinger of death and destruction for mutants in all timelines and realities. Orchis recently made moves to destroy Krakoa alongside Druig and his Eternals in the opening of the Judgment Day event, but this foolish plan was quickly superseded by the terrifying judgment of the Progenitor Celestial, which forced Moira X and Orchis to team up with the X-Men to defeat the cosmic being and save their world. Orchis works on multiple different front, from political to social to financial, and have quickly begun to win over the hearts and minds of humanity with their “logical” anti-mutant stance, playing on humans fear of the unknown and the other to get them on their side. Orchis has many powerful allies, including Moira X, Abigail Brand, and Doctor Stasis (a clone of Mister Sinister), as well as Feilong, the mutant hating industrialist who will apparently be buying Stark Unlimited after Tony hits rock bottom, using his Iron Man technology to create “Stark Sentinels” to aid in Orchis’ planned extermination of the mutant race.
Orchis has proved time and time again that they are mutantkind’s most vile and disgusting enemies, and while the X-Men are incredibly powerful, intelligent, and resilient, it will take everything in Krakoa’s arsenal to win the war against the villainous Orchis in the upcoming Fall of X event, a war that will change Krakoa forever and lead into the mutant’s newest era.
