The Fall of the House of X #3 – by Gerry Duggan, Lucas Werneck, Jethro Morales, Bryan Valenza, and Travis Lanham – finds Cyclops tracking the ultimate Sentinel, Nimrod, to the Summer House on the Blue Area of the Moon. As Nimrod faces Cyclops and Orchis defector Alia Gregor, Nimrod, reveals the secret of Mercury’s hidden Sentinel City.
After murdering Dr. Gregor, Nimrod gloats, “Sentinel City is not any outpost or mine. It’s a tool to sterilize this hellish planet once and for all.” With this ultimate weapon headed Earth’s way, the X-Men face a greater threat than even they realized.

Under the best circumstances, such a weapon can hardly go unnoticed, and as such, the Sentinel’s true victory here is the fact that they’ve managed to keep this project under wraps for the majority of the Krakoan Age. As teased back in X-Men #6 – by Jonathan Hickman, Matteo Buffagni, Sunny Gho, and Clayton Cowles – Nimrod acknowledges in this issue that Sentinel City has been hanging over the X-Men like the Sword of Damocles. Now, after Orchis has pitted humanity and mutantkind against one another for so long, it is the perfect opportunity for Sentinel City to strike.
The Sentinels’ ultimate endgame against the mutants has always been total extinction, and with the potential power of the Sentinel City, that goal has never been more attainable. Initially designed to tackle the “mutant problem,” the last few years have made it clear that the Sentinels hold as much contempt for humanity as they do for the X-Men. Should the Sentinel City truly wield the power boasted by Nimrod, it’s an existential threat not just to mutants, but to all life on Earth – and it should make the A.I. ascension all the more possible.
