X-Men Team Up With Moon Girl For Epic Adventure in Space

Marvel’s most precocious hero, Moon Girl, is partnering with the X-Men on a journey that’s going to take them straight into outer space. The young adventurer’s escapade with the mutants will be the final chapter in a trio of stories meant to prep fans for Moon Girl’s next big tale.

In her short time on Earth, Lunella Lafayette has made quite a name for herself as a hero. Renowned as the smartest person in the Marvel Universe, Lunella has been creating inventions and using her intellect to solve everyday problems far beyond any fourth grader. The bright young girl stepped up and began using her smarts for heroics when she came across Devil Dinosaur, a giant red beast she bonded with after he was accidentally transported to Earth. Together, the two have become one of Marvel’s most unique powerhouses thanks to Moon Girl’s brains and Devil Dinosaur’s brawns.

But things are about to take a dark turn for Lunella, as her faithful companion is about to stolen by a malevolent force. Marvel announced X-Men & Moon Girl #1, a crossover one-shot that will see Lunella team up with Wolverine to try and retrieve Devil Dinosaur from the clutches of the High Evolutionary. The High Evolutionary’s experiments have done something to her friend, breaking the special connection she has with Devil Dinosaur. Moon Girl will have to put her wit to the test to stop the villain’s plans for unleashing an army of cloned dinosaurs and save her closest ally. Moon Girl’s team up with the X-Men is the third and final entry in a series of one-shots that show the hero teaming up with notable figures, such as Miles Morales’s Spider-Man and the Avengers.

As, Marvel notes in their announcement, the one-shots serve as a good entry point for new fans of Moon Girl and that the overall story will “gear fans up for her upcoming solo series.” While there’s been no word yet when Lunella’s next comic will premiere, she’s certainly overdue for one, with her last series ending in 2019. With a new comic and an animated series on the horizon, team-ups like these show what Moon Girl brings to the Marvel Universe with her brand of brainpower.

Superhero team-ups are a trope almost as old as comics themselves. Pairing characters with different power-sets and personalities is a good way to create a dynamic and engaging story, while also getting in some good character development. Despite her vast intellect, Moon Girl is still one of Marvel’s youngest heroes and has a way to go in proving herself. Joining and keeping up with heroes such as Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and Wolverine will no doubt show that Lunella Lafayette’s mind makes her a force to be reckoned with. Moon Girl might make the case that she’s just as capable a hero as any member of the X-Men.
