X-Men: New Mutants Working Title Revealed

X-Men: New Mutants Working Title Revealed

The next film in the X-Men franchise will be New Mutants and its working title has finally been revealed. Josh Boone has long been set to take on the task of bringing another team of mutants to the big screen, but it won’t feature many of the familiar faces from previous movies. New Mutants will see characters like Magik, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, and more make their big screen debuts, and it took a big step forward with Fox announcing it as part of the X-Men 2018 film slate.

Even though the cast has yet to be officially announced, the film continues to move forward to hit that spring 2018 date. Boone previously confirmed that pre-production is underway, prior to it being reported New Mutants will start filming this summer. Now, we know what working title it will be operating under.

Production Weekly has revealed that the working title for New Mutants is Growing Pains. With them literally set to be a group of up and coming heroes still figuring out their powers and how to be heroes, the title is a clear reference to the growing pains they will experience individually and as a group.

X-Men: New Mutants Working Title Revealed

This is simply the latest sign of New Mutants moving along at a positive rate. The confirmation of a working title typically comes right before filming is set to begin. With June previously being revealed as the start, there is just over a month left for Fox to make more announcements prior to filming.

The biggest mysteries currently remain with the cast that will be featured. Even though rumors have pointed to Anya Taylor-Joy being Magik, Maisie Williams playing Wolfsbane, and Nat Wolff playing Cannonball, none of these have been officially confirmed. Taylor-Joy has spoken ad nauseam about her interest in the New Mutants, but Williams may be the closest to being confirmed thanks to art of her in the role. The only other New Mutant rumored to be part of the film is Sunspot, along with possible appearances from Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Professor X (James McAvoy).

Thanks to a previously released animatic, we know that the group will be going up against possibly the strangest villain imaginable, Demon Bear – who is exactly what his name indicates. With the film set to kick off Fox’s first three-film year in 2018, the short production schedule could indicate a smaller, more personal story for the New Mutants, which is exactly what this working title helps to illustrate.
