The box office domination by comic book movies is about to continue with the release of the latest installment in the X-Men film franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse. The franchise has found new life on-screen ever since younger versions of the characters were introduced in X-Men: First Class.

The latest international TV spots for X-Men: Apocalypse have arrived online, and they highlight the immense destruction that epic villain Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen are going to bring to our favorite mutant heroes. Also, Sophie Turner (Jean Grey) has shared a still from the movie that features a cool (sort of) cameo by pop star mutant Dazzler.

A variety of characters will be featured in X-Men: Apocalypse, including the characters that we have already seen in X-Men: First Class and many that we have yet to be introduced to, like the younger versions of Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey. The constant of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is the key that has kept the films tied together, so the recent visual confirmation that Logan will be showing up in X-Men: Apocalypse is welcome news.

Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) is making her mutant debut as a younger version of the powerful telepath Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse. A recent tweet from the actress featured an image of her in the new film, picking out a record with her co-star Tye Sheridan (Scott Summers/Cyclops) – but that’s not just any singer on the cover. Dazzler (real name Alison Blaire) has been appearing in the comic books of the X-Men universe since her debut in 1980. She even enjoyed a long-running solo series from 1981-85. Dazzler was created as a multi-media crossover character for Casablanca Records in the late 1970s. Dubbed as a “disco-queen”, her mutant abilities included the ability to convert sound vibrations into light and energy beams. The inclusion of Dazzler in the film is a great nod to fans of the comics of the 1980s.

The image has also reignited the rumor that Taylor Swift may be playing Dazzler, which was initially fueled by online images of her hanging out with the director and some of the cast of the film while they were filming in Montreal. Some have speculated that the Dazzler depicted on the album confirms Swift’s cameo, because the image sort of resembles her, but the album cover art is actually taken from Bill Sienkiewicz’s cover for Dazzler #29. Though it’s fun to think of a pop star cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse, for now we’re going to go with the official explanation that the cast was simply hanging out with Swift after attending one of her shows.

X-Men: Apocalypse will see theatrical release in the U.S. on May 27th, 2016, followed by Wolverine 3 on March 3rd, 2017, and unannounced X-Men films on October 6th, 2017 (possibly Gambit), January 12th, 2018 (possibly Deadpool 2), and July 13th, 2018. The New Mutants is also in development.
