As anticipation continues to mount leading up to the theatrical release of director Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse this May, and coming on the heels of the release of the latest feature length trailer for the new film, viewers of the popular Marvel Comics property on the big screen have been offered plenty of glimpses at the movie’s star-studded cast of characters thus far. In what might be the greatest X-Men film yet, Singer appears primed to conclude the latest trilogy of films in the eponymous X-Men universe with a bang, and thus usher in the dawn of an entirely new era of films based on the team of that ever-popular superhero syndicate.

With Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) set to deliver what looks to be among his most awe inspiring and viscerally thrilling performances yet as the film’s central antagonist, X-Men: Apocalypse should manage to draw a crowd later this year – and is now being further promoted through a series of newly-unveiled Empire magazine covers.

In the brand new series of exclusive covers, much of the cast from Singer’s new film is featured front and center on their respective issues, with the tagline “The End Is Nigh,” emblazoned across each and every issue. There are a total of nine variant covers to collect in all, with the film’s stars – James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), and of course Isaac among them – each given their time in the limelight in the promotion of what is sure to be a cataclysmic superhero event to rival the likes of the one that will be featured in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice next week.

Of late it has been made abundantly apparent that Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Children will finally be put to the test by Isaac as Apocalypse and his four horsemen, in what is sure to change the very nature of the X-Men movie universe indefinitely. And by the looks of things featured on these nine exclusive Empire magazine covers, things are sure to be shaky when Singer’s new movie finally sees theatrical release later this year.

Given Singer’s reputation for developing novel and critically successful box office hits within the X-Men franchise, distributor 20th Century Fox no doubt hopes to make his final film in the franchise a movie event not to be missed by both casual viewers and die hard Marvel fans alike. Only time will tell how effectively Singer performs his presumed task, though viewers should be able to rest a little easier knowing how good things appear to be shaping up to be on the director’s latest feature film production.
