WWE’s New Gaming Series Launches With Among Us Superstar Session On Dec. 29

The WWE is making another foray into the gaming world, with a new series featuring WWE Superstars versus celebrities for an Among Us Holiday Sus-Fest. The Superstar Gaming Series will be launched on the WWE Network on December 29, and will also feature WWE 2K Battlegrounds and a series of WWE grudge matches.

While the WWE is primarily known for professional wrestling, as a company, it’s expanded into an empire that often crosses over into other mainstream entertainment industries. That includes a few licensed games that never quite set the video game world on fire, but are still staples on the shelves of WWE’s expansive and devoted fanbase. Meanwhile, Among Us, a social sleuthing game created by small indie studio InnerSloth, became popular almost entirely on accident, and over the course of the year, became an internet sensation streamed by famous figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Considering WWE’s CEO Vince McMahon banned his wrestlers from using third-party streaming or content services like Twitch only a few months ago, WWE’s next new series, the Superstar Gaming Series, is likely another way for the company to continue to capitalize on video game streaming, and is certainly fortuitously timed. Gamespot reports that the Superstar Gaming Series will feature a lineup of WWE wrestlers including Adam Cole, Shayna Baszler, Tyler Breeze, Jessamyn Duke, Liv Morgan, and the Miz, along with celebrities Lele Pons, Nick Eh 30, Faze Adapt, and Wale. It’ll kick off with a marathon of The Best of UpUpDownDown 2020, before the Among Us Holiday Sus-fest that’ll pit wrestlers versus celebrities, and will stream on all of WWE’s social media platforms and the free version of the WWE network.

Considering Among Us‘s popularity came about thanks to livestreams by a few well-known names, and that it’s made its way into other franchises, similar to how the WWE has over the decades, it’s a pretty sensible idea to have the two powerhouses come together for a little post-holiday streaming action. The Holiday Sus-Fest will be appropriately followed up by a stream of WWE 2K Battlegrounds “Holiday Throwdown.” And for diehard WWE purists, three grudge matches will cap off the festivities, two of which feature the legendary Ronda Rousey, in her (sort of) return to the WWE.

YouTube’s Kinda Funny Games host Greg Miller will emcee the series launch along with special guest host WWE wrestler Xavier Woods. The Superstar Gaming Series premieres at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET on Tuesday, December 29 with the Best of UpUpDownDown 2020 marathon, while the Holiday Sus-Fest starts at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET.
