WWE 2K Franchise Future To Be Revealed Monday; New Game Reveal Incoming?

After rumors began circulating that a new WWE 2K game would not be released in 2020, the official Twitter account for the game has stated that news will arrive on the future of the 2K franchise on Monday, April 27th. Following the lapse in quality present in WWE 2K20, it’s clear that a number of things need to change in order to improve the experience. The latest game launched with a number of major technical issues that immediately impacted the user experience. Some of these glitches even went viral, creating a stir that likely threw off potential consumers.

Still, there’s a strong desire to play and enjoy a good wrestling game amongst consumers. The games have provided an outlet to realize a number of dream matchups in the past, with the likes of current WWE Superstars and Legends present in the titles. Some entries in the series have even led to wrestlers that had departed World Wrestling Entertainment to returning in real life to see out a few more fantasy bouts. So to say that the gaming series is important to WWE as a whole is an understatement, which is why it’s interesting to see that the WWE2K account may be teasing something else.

As mentioned, the official account for the WWE video game series posted something of interest on Twitter, stating that an update on the future of the 2K franchise is en route for April 27, 2020, at 7 am PT. Many are expecting that update to be the much-talked-about delay for the next iteration of the property. More interestingly, however, the post also teases that there’s some exciting news, which seems to indicate that there is another WWE game planned for release this year in lieu of the expected annual installment.

The same set of rumors that kickstarted discussion that the WWE2K series would miss its expected release date also mentioned that another game would take its place. The only question now is what this mystery game could be – provided the initial report is accurate. There are a few routes that a wrestling game can take, and some have even been explored in the past. One-offs like WWE All Stars managed to strike a more arcadey feel and it would be great to revisit that sort of style of play.

Hopefully, a more over-the-top approach is present for the next version, but only time will tell what awaits fans eager for a new bout in the squared circle. Really, anything that gets the Undertaker vs. AJ Styles Boneyard Match option into a game sooner rather than later would be preferred.
