Wright and Pegg Together Again In World’s End

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg have announced that they are to make a follow-up to Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.

The new film titled The World’s End is part of a two film deal that Wright has signed with Working Title (the makers of “Shaun” and “Fuzz”) and it will again be co-written with Pegg.

Wright said of the deal :

“We’ve had a lot of fun with them so far and it delights me to continue the partnership in the future with new material and bold directions.”

I’m pretty sure that Johnny Depp will not be involved!

The second film in the deal – Baby Driver (I wonder if the soundtrack will contain Simon & Garfunkel) will be an action and crime comedy set in America (for a change).

The first time that I encountered the Wright/Pegg combo was Shaun of the Dead. I’d recently quit a highly stressful job and I was at a loose end so I decided to catch a matinee show in Belfast. Man that movie blew me away; I still watch it every year. There’s just a great vibe and you can tell that everyone involved with the project cared about the film. Something that can’t be said about most Hollywood productions.

Hot Fuzz again is a neat film (it received a rare stars here on Screen Rant) that uses the conventions of the action genre, turns them upside down (setting the film in England where the cops don’t carry guns was genius) and because of this the film feels fresh and exciting, even though it contains every cliche from the genre.

No news yet on what this new film will be about… although I’d bet that it will be funny and co-star Nick Frost. Well, I hope that it does.

I’d also bet that the film will have a much higher budget because Pegg’s stock will rise by a truck load following his appearance in J.J. Abram’s Star Trek reboot.

I will keep you posted on future developments, and as Screen Rant‘s man in the UK, I’ll keep my ear to the ground. Maybe even both of them… if you’re lucky!
