WoW: Dragonflight – How Forbidden Reach Compares To Other Starting Zones

WoW: Dragonflight – How Forbidden Reach Compares To Other Starting Zones

The all-new Dracthyr Evoker race/class combo in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight awaken in their starting zone, the Forbidden Reach, which is a very distinct landscape from other beginning areas players have experienced. This smaller, outlying archipelago off the coast of the Dragon Isles was originally fashioned by Neltharion to be a secret training ground for his would-be super-soldiers. Lost to the ravages of time, this dark and foreboding area has become a taboo place for those who remember its existence.

WoW: Dragonflight introduces the new Dracthyr race with their exclusive Evoker class. They are able to change between dragon and humanoid forms and, most notably, can fly. The Soar ability is new to WoW and the Forbidden Reach starting zone is laid out perfectly with multiple elevations and large expanses for players to experiment and learn the ins and outs of this new traversal method. The landscape has fallen to ruin and nature has taken over while the Dracthyr have remained in magical stasis for years, and now they are finally waking up.

Dragonflight’s Forbidden Reach Is Perfect For Learning To Fly

WoW: Dragonflight – How Forbidden Reach Compares To Other Starting Zones

Similar to Death Knights, players will find that when starting a new Dracthyr Evoker that characters start at level 58 and follow a storyline that deftly teaches them their spells and abilities while quickly leveling to 60. This introduction artfully takes players through their history and lore while also showing how to understand the new gameplay mechanics. This is quite unlike the Wrath of the Lich King‘s Death Knight introduction, which was focused mostly on the story and betrayal of the Lich King and felt a bit rushed.

The storyline of the Forbidden Reach is incredibly well done, and overall this is the smoothest race and class introduction WoW has done yet. The Dracthyr waking up from stasis and not knowing what has happened, where Neltharian has gone, and why their beloved land is now taken over by creatures of all kinds is a tale well told and is experienced by players in a well-paced way. Leaving their collapsing Creche and heading to check on their friends, characters get to spread their wings and start flying early on with tutorials helping guide the way. This is not simply jumping and gliding but incorporates physics with velocity taken into account and a lot more concentration than players are used to from their flying mounts. The Dracthyr Evoker class is the future of WoW with the complicated but awe-inspiring mechanics it brings, and the Forbidden Reach zone is hand-crafted specifically for learning how to soar through the air.

Dragonflight has brought an incredible array of changes and updates to the game. However, despite all the extra systems and mechanics that were modified, at the heart of this expansion are, ultimately, dragons. The Dracthyr Evoker race starting in the Forbidden Reach is an introduction to this new part of the world that every player should experience, and which the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight developers should be proud of.
