World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Covenant Abilities (& What They Do)

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Covenant Abilities (& What They Do)

When World of Warcraft: Shadowlands releases in just a few more days for Mac and PC, it will bring with it several new changes and features. One of the biggest new features in World of Warcraft’s new expansion is Covenants, a group that players can join. Before deciding which to align themselves with, though, players will get to experiment with the signature abilities of each and then choose which Covenant in Shadowlands is right for them.

Covenants have been a bit of a controversial issue in World of Warcraft lately. During the Shadowlands beta, there were concerns that Covenants made World of Warcraft too unbalanced. However, Activision Blizzard delayed the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion last month to focus on honing the game’s features a bit more, and that included tweaking some of Shadowlands’ Covenant issues.

There are four Covenants in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, and each rules over a specific zone in the afterlife. Kyrians are angelic beings who live in Bastion, while Necrolords are mostly liches and warlords who hail from Maldraxxus. Night Fae inhabit Ardenweald and are guardians of nature. Meanwhile, the vampiric Venthyr live in Revendreth, home to Sire Denathrius and the Castle Nathria endgame raid. Depending on which World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Covenant players choose to join, they will gain access to class-specific Covenant abilities as well as signature abilities that all members of the Covenant acquire.

Signature Abilities From Each WoW: Shadowlands Covenant

The Kyrian Covenant’s signature ability is Summon Steward. This calls forth a steward with a Phial of Serenity for players to drink, which causes health to be restored as well as removing Curse, Bleed, Disease, and Poison effects. Once per day, stewards also offer useful items and services to the player. Meanwhile, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ Venthyr Covenant’s signature ability is Door of Shadows, which allows members to essentially move to a targeted location by drifting through the shadows.

The Necrolords of Maldraxxus have a signature ability called Fleshcraft, which creates a large shield of flesh and bone. If this is cast near a dead body, then the shield will be even larger. The Night Fae in Shadowlands use a signature ability called Soulshape, which allows World of Warcraft players to turn into a Vulpin and even teleport a short distance. Cosmetic forms for Soulshape can also be earned from playing the expansion.

Players will get to experiment with each Shadowlands Covenant before deciding on which one to join. It will be possible to change Covenants in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, although it will be difficult to return to a Covenant once players abandon it – so adventurers will need to choose wisely. Additional class-specific abilities will be available as well, but any members of a Covenant will get access to the Covenant’s signature ability.
